It was crucial. One of the best dig ins I've ever seen, and certainly the best I've seen from Bell. Broad's stint was obdurate but Bell surpassed it. He was 8 not out off over 90 balls!

First time he's stood up to be counted for ages. He located his spine, finally.

Root put in a good effort too to bat practically the full morning session.

Hats off to Bell, Prior, Broad (outstanding from him, given his natural instinct to attack) and Monty.

Was following this all day on cricinfo at work (Oz), actually sat there and watched the last 10 overs reading the commentary waiting for it refresh. This is as good as test cricket gets. When Broad and Jimmy went in the same over I thought Goodnight Vienna.

As an Englishman I feel for New Zealand, a win would have been absolutely massive for them. Dudes were saying **** work/school and just getting down to the ground to witness a potential moment of history. What's more, they deserved it.

But **** it. I've lived through the 90's English side, and it's good to see some ****ing backbone and spirit. And it's been that way for a while now. Alistair Cook was saying after the match it was the fourth last ball/last wicket escape he has been involved in

I had to google what obdurate meant But yes, Broad was obdurate.

Gutted I fell asleep now. Sounds stupid, but if I had had the thought that England would dig in that deep Id have watched the lot.

Prior has come out of this series looking amazing. Proper Wicket Keeper/Batsman. His keeping is always first rate
