    Was following this all day on cricinfo at work (Oz), actually sat there and watched the last 10 overs reading the commentary waiting for it refresh. This is as good as test cricket gets. When Broad and Jimmy went in the same over I thought Goodnight Vienna.

    As an Englishman I feel for New Zealand, a win would have been absolutely massive for them. Dudes were saying **** work/school and just getting down to the ground to witness a potential moment of history. What's more, they deserved it.

    But **** it. I've lived through the 90's English side, and it's good to see some ****ing backbone and spirit. And it's been that way for a while now. Alistair Cook was saying after the match it was the fourth last ball/last wicket escape he has been involved in

    Prior has come out of this series looking amazing. Proper Wicket Keeper/Batsman. His keeping is always first rate

        Matty Prior has been ****ing staunch for quite some time now. I remember him wanting to fight Peter Siddle during the last Ashes win here in Oz, and coming in at 7 and chipping in with numerous quickfire 50/60s

          I switched over to it twice. First time, the first ball I saw was Root's dismissal. Second time, the first ball was Bairstow's.

                        Jesse Ryder been beaten up badly by the sound of it

                        Controversial cricketer Jesse Ryder is in Christchurch Hospital in intensive care with a fractured skull after an incident last night, reports say.

                        Fairfax media reported Ryder, 28, was involved in a fight at a fast food outlet in Papanui Road shortly after midnight.

                        nzherald.co.nz understands three other men were involved in the fight with Ryder, and that he was hit from behind.

                        Ryder's family is flying to be by their son's bedside, Newstalk ZB reported.

                        Ryder, who hasn't played for the Black Caps since early last year, was in Christchurch playing for Wellington in the major preliminary final against Canterbury at Hagley Oval yesterday.

                        A Christchurch police spokesperson confirmed the incident had happened and said details would be given at a press conference later today.

                        This isn't the first incident of this kind for Ryder, whose indiscretions have been widely publicised.

                        In February 2008, Ryder cut his hand trying to break into a toilet at a Christchurch bar at 5.30am the day after New Zealand won a One Day International series against England.


                        The following January, he failed to turn up for team training after getting drunk in Wellington following an ODI against the West Indies in Wellington.

                        Later that year, Ryder whacked a chair with his bat after being dismissed and was fined 15 per cent of his match fee. When he was chastised by team manager Dave Currie, Ryder reacted with a tirade of abuse.

                        In July 2010, Ryder was charged with serious misconduct over being drunk and disorderly during an indoor cricket competition in Christchurch.

                        He was then axed from the third one-day international in Auckland in March last year after he became involved in a verbal altercation with patrons at a Napier bar.

                        Ryder's last game for New Zealand in an ODI in February last year. The left-hander is on a self-imposed exile from the New Zealand side in a bid to get his personal issues in order.
