Incredible that Chiefs were virtually fielding a second team
Bit surprised you haven't referenced S H-C's very clever touch down last night or Hogg's excellent try from the weekend actually
I don’t want to seem one dimensional.
SHC did really well last night, though his box kicking was poor (May have been weather). His try was showed incredible radar in figuring out where the line was and getting the ball down.
The Chiefs are just relentless. They seem to be being rewarded by squad harmony. They managed all the renegotiated contracts perfectly and quickly with zero fuss - other teams seemed to have an absolute nightmare. I really warm to Rob Baxter, he’s a really eloquent head coach always quick to praise the opposition and very honest about his own team without showering them with praise.
Yeah the weather was really windy apparently so not necessarily S H-C's fault although I suppose an absolutely top scrum half would have factored that in . . he's still young though.
Agree Baxter always comes across well - it seems to be that the sum of the parts is the most important thing to him - he's all about the collective.
And he doesn't accept less than 100% - 100% of the time. Effort and commitment are the defining features.
I may have posted this before but there are no excuses in Baxter world for not putting yourself on the line although to be fair the players seem to buy in to it. I coached with a bloke a few years ago who had been pretty handy in his day having played International U23's and had spent some of his time at Exeter.
Although we got on well but he was quite an awkward ****er and I was told by a journalist I know who had seen him play that he was pretty tough on the pitch. And yet when we talked about Baxter who he'd played with during his time there he said he was the hardest bloke he'd ever met.
So maybe the Chiefs boys are just absolutely **** scared of not performing at the required level
Yeah he seems very ‘culture orientated’ but you can tell the players do buy into it, and get the results. I feel for Exeter as they have effectively been cheated out of a few titles by Saracens. And yes, though he comes across as a thoroughly decent bloke you 100% would not argue with him. He’s got that inner steel.
Pilot return to stadia game between Edinburgh and Glasgow tonight. It was awful 15-3 to Glasgow. Edinburgh rested a few players for the home semi v Ulster next week but it was a truly shocking performance uncharacteristic for this season.
Would be strongly against it. Whilst there would be financial benefits, the level of competition is nowhere near Super Rugby. On average the NZ teams are roughly on par with most national teams and the Jaguares are the majority of the Argentina team. The Super Rugby system doesn't really work and would need to be relooked/trimmed, but playing quality opposition should be essential.
It looks quite far down the line though, with rumours floating around about the Boks playing in the 6Ns too. Finances and timezones do make more sense, but I'm not sure about it from a sporting perspective. It would obviously hurt NZ too, but I feel they have too much and would increasingly move ahead of everyone else. They would feel the financial implications drastically, but perhaps Japan could save them there. Would be cool to potentially see SA teams in the Heineken Cup though.
