    Some good insight that

Its endemic and depressing at the same time then. You're right its always been there, but it's never been more apparent in F1 than it is now. A lot of that is to do with the greed and the insistence from the big teams to stick with it as it is - they're getting their massive slice of the financial pie by being able to outspend, so why change it?

The other teams are taking anyone's money just to stay afloat. Its rubbish.

Having the very best equipment brand new often puts them at the front of the grid and then they progress into single seater racers etc, whereas there are better drivers out there who can't afford all of the above so they might not quite beat the others, yet if they were on the exact same equipment etc they'd batter them.

Just to compound my point there was one family at my track who turned up with 3 teenage kids, each of which they'd just spent over £10,000 on for brand new karts. They signed up for the race season and in the first race the lad didn't brake into the first corner and caused a huge crash. He wrote off another lad's kart and his own, but he didn't give a **** because his Dad just bought him another new chassis (over £5000) while the other lad had to sit out for a while until his family could afford to buy him a replacement second hand chassis. It's an absolute joke.
Where do you Kart and what class/formula?

Do you read Karting Magazine? My wife was featured with a double page spread the other month

She's down south now as that's where her dad lives- her "home" circuit is Clay Pigeon, but she did race Hooton for a season when she first started a few years ago

                She's Formula Blue

                  Ahhh cool.

I know a few teams who go there but they go a lot of other places too haha.

Formula Blue is soooo much cheaper to run than Rotax. I did think about doing they don't have a grid for it at Hooton.

That's why she races down south now. In her first year karting she finished 2nd in the club championship and that was only because a much more experienced guy who is very well known at that club so I won't name names, decided to join a few races in because he knew he could win against a field of novices. Completely hollow victory but him and his dad celebrated like they won the F1 championship

Racing down south is a much bigger grid with better drivers for Blue

There's not a great grid up here to be honest which is a shame. The Senior Rotax and Masters Rotax sometimes get put in together to make the grid bigger.

There's a guy in our team who's in Masters but he's ridiculously good. He has been doing it years and is in his 40s but he's in great condition haha. He cleans up Masters every single time on whatever chassis he decides to turn up with (Gillard, TonyKart, X30 etc it doesn't matter). When the Seniors and Masters get put together he still beats the Seniors haha.

He races in Europe too though and wins everything.

That's poor form that is, what the hell is wrong with people!

Surely these people can spot the best drivers, whatever equipment they are using as it's all relative is it not ?

If all they do is promote the rich; who have the best gear, and not the better driver who may be surpassing the expectations of their equipment, then that's a bit ****! and very wrong!

It's **** mate but that's how most of motorsport works. Very rarely sponsors cover the costs of a team at whatever level, so they need rich drivers so throughout motorsport it's not a case of spotting and picking talent, it's looking for a mixture of talent AND backing and unless the driver is VERY VERY special (Hamilton-esque) that would attract big sponsors they'll compromise on the talent.

The perfect example is Maldonado. He's shocking, there are so many better drivers out there (I could probably do a better job) yet because he brings government backing he's in F1 year in year out. Without a paying driver, Lotus wouldn't be in F1.

Just watched 'Duel of the Silver Arrows' on i player.

What a great season it was, when you consider it was between two drivers from the same dominating team.

Not just the driving, but all the emotion involved from drivers right through the team, on and off the circuit.

                            Loved it.
