How was he handed it? They chose to stay out and then got lucky with the crash allowing them a free pit (which they all get don't they?)Originally posted by BG1973 View PostWhat the hell is wrong with F1.
Verstappen the prick handed the drivers title today with a free pit stop thanks to red flag tyre change rule.
Stupid ****ing sport.

Using the word "handed" like you have done insinuates that he was allowed to win unfairly. Which isn't the case, is it.
So youre angry at F1, because there was a moment of luck that allowed him (and the other two) to get podium finishes by leapfrogging the others that chose to pit early?
All other teams could've done the same thing btw. But they didn't. RB and Alpine took big risks, and it paid off. Doesn't always though.
Was a great drive IMO coming from where he did. Why was he starting in 17th again..."When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah

Yes I am angry that he gets hugely important bit of luck again when he hasn't done much to deserve any in the past 2 races.
It's equivalent feeling of losing to Madrid when Ramos injured Salah.
Getting a free Pitstop like that is ****ed. If they redflag a race and you want to change tyres then if you have already changed then 20 second time penalty, if you haven't then 40 seconds served immediately and restart order is amended accordingly
Ending drivers contest with 3 races to go on moments like that is infuriating.Last edited by BG1973; 04-11-24, 08:34 AM.

I'm no fan of Verstappen, but that was a drive and a half from him yesterday. They have to put themselves in the position to make the most of situations that happen, and he absolutely did that yesterday - he went up from 17th to 10th in the first lap, the made pass after pass on a treacherous circuit where going off the racing line was nigh on impossible for everyone else on the circuit - look at Norris struggling to get past George Russell lap after lap, and how much Hamilton struggled in conditions they used to say were made for him.
That drive (for me) was up there as a career defining one, like the way they speak about Schumacher in Spain in 95, Hamilton at Silverstone in 2008 or Senna at Donington.
He MAXimised it

He's a great driver and he had a great drive yesterday maybe had a bit of luck but that happens sometimes in F1.
He's a prickly little ****er but seems to be so thick skinned he doesn't really give a ****.
That RB yesterday was very good in the wet with him at the wheel, I'm no fan but you have to give him credit for the win and the manner of it.

I've got to walk away... a bit lucky. He won the title yesterday due to a bollocks ruling.
Norris was penalised two races ago for a bollocks ruling where this great driver couldn't stop his car in time to stay on the track and without forcing an opponent off the track. Again.
He plays the game right to the limit and it's not his fault the rules are stupid and easily manipulated. But he then gets luck like yesterday to win the title so bollocks to him and bollocks to f1.Last edited by BG1973; 04-11-24, 05:43 PM.

It's a daft rule, but one that has been in place for ages, and that all teams are aware of. RB and the 2 Alpine's took a calculated risk that the conditions would result in a red flag, based on driver feedback and weather data. McLaren and Mercedes had the same information available, and decided that new rubber was the way to go. It was a call skewed in favour of a red flag due to conditions on track, but those 2 teams chose the wrong option, something George Russell bemoaned even before the flag came out.Originally posted by BG1973 View PostI've got to walk away... a bit lucky. Not luck, it was just a part of racing, using data and experience to try and plan as best you can for the rest of the race. If Norris had got "lucky" and no one crashed out in those conditions, then McLaren would have probably gone on to finish strongly (altho could Max of caught them if he pitted....race pace says maybe).

It was rolling the dice and their numbers came up.
F1 is ridiculous. Billions spent, envirnomental carnage as they take the **** show all over the globe to be decided like that after finally generating some interest .. After 3 years of complete and utter boredom.
And please stop replying as I don't think I can stop
