Yeah, was reading about that today, bloody shocking.

The way he stumbled a bit then fell flat on his face looked very ominous.

Absolutely shocking. Horrifying clip. Hope he pulls through.

Cricketer Phil Hughes has undergone surgery and remains in a critical condition after being struck on the head by a bouncer at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Paramedics performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on Hughes and treated him on the boundary for about 40 minutes after the incident on Tuesday. A helicopter landed on the field of play, but Hughes was ultimately taken to St Vincent’s hospital by ambulance.

After carrying out a series of scans on the batsman, who has played 26 Test matches for Australia, doctors decided to operate. The hospital said he remained in a critical condition and was in intensive care.

St Vincent’s Hospital spokesman David Faktor told AAP: “He’s in ICU now, they’ve finished the surgery’s but he’s still in a critical condition.

            “Now they’ll just monitor him.”

Cricket Australia said Hughes was in an induced coma and the outcome of the surgery was unlikely to be known for 24-48 hours.

            Lets hope he pulls through

They were saying on the radio that it was the back of his head and they may have had to take part of his skull away to operate.

              Absolutely horrific.

It's awful, if he recovers I wonder what kind of capacity it'll be in. Could be Michael Watson esque, you don't really know with this kind of thing.

Doubt he'll be able to play again regardless. Mark Vermeulen the Zimbabwean batsmen got hit in the head in Australia around a decade ago. He still plays, but apparently if he gets hit in the head again he'll probably die. It turned him into an absolute nutcase too. Burned down the clubhouse and tried to get Mugabe ( ) of all people facilitate relations with Zim cricket to get back in the team. The bizarre behaviour has been attributed to the head injury. Apparently he needs a ton of psychology to resemble a normal persons behaviour.

That was in the front of his head, I imagine the impact in the back would be much much worse. Hence you're not allowed to rabbit punch in boxing. A cricket ball is ****ing hard and travels with some force, so it's one hell of a rough one.

The medical response seemed very amateurish to me, can't believe he wasn't getting oxygen on the way off the field, he was blue ffs.

Imagine how the bowler feels also.

I had the same thought. I'm not a health professional or a neurologist, but I couldn't help thinking of Gerald McClellan.

Just unprepared aren't they, such an unusual event in cricket. Not saying it's right, they should've been more prepared and you can guarantee they will be in future. It did seem amateurish but I feel for everyone involved. Desperately hoping Hughes pulls through but for some reason it feels very bleak.

Apparently he'd been down 14 minutes before they called an ambulance. But the media over here is all of a par with the daily mail at best so dunno how true that is.
