Monty is the best spin bowler in the country and has done little wrong with the ball this winter.

I agree he's probably the best spinner but when he doesn't bowl he's a wasted shirt. Cook doesn't seem to trust him at all so get someone in who does have his trust.

Wasn't he injured in the second innings?

I agree he is a liability in the field, but I'm not sure you should pick/drop a bowler based on their fielding.

I've always said you pick someone for their main discipline and always defended Monty on that basis, but Cook won't bowl him so that leaves the other two disciplines at which he is ****.

He wasn't injured - Cook offered a lame excuse about Root being able to bowl in the rough to scuff the ball up and ready it to reverse swing.

Yeah I agree. Despite defending him recently I'm not a fan of Cooky's captaincy, he is more Straussy than Straussy.
