Lehman is definitely involved in this. He hasn't said a word yet has he?
The biggest damage here is to the legacy of the baggy green. You cant image to imagine Glen McGrath resorting to this, or Ponting asking Brett Lee to do stoop so low, or any of the historical hero's of Aussie cricket, their entire reputation is built on something worthwhile. Grit determination and flair.
Test cricket is already in enough trouble without this.Modifying post.

I definitely could. Australia have had fantastic players and teams over the last 2-3 decades but the majority of them came across as impersonal and win at all costs regardless of circumstances. I know that there is a difference between playing hard cricket and this but it wouldn't surprise me at all. Brett Lee giving batsmen send offs every other game pointing to the dressing room shouting '**** off' with his chainsaw celebration. The umpires before DRS and how every Australian was never out with huge nicks behind/struck plumb in front. The only reason SA has won there the last few times is because of the DRS, I looked at key moments in all of those series and it's made huge differences. Not to mention the time that Justin Langer flicked the bail off the stumps to make it look like the Sri Lankan player had hit his wickets.Originally posted by Buzzo View Post

Touring teams to Australia don't get it much better with horrible media and raucous crowds. Racially abusing opposition players, targeting players in teams and even throwing a whole chicken at Pat Symcox when fielding on the boundary. This for me is the just deserts of decades of ****ty sportsmanship and bad behaviour on and off the pitch coming to bite them in the arse. Worst of all, Lehmann, a horrible racist cunt had the nerve to say SA crowds are out of control. I saw Dominic Cork was incensed by this and went mental on SSN
- rightly so.
Australia have produced great cricketers a lot of the time, but don't have much to say with their integrity or the way they've played the game in modern times.

Well, yeah, the racism is clearly totally unacceptable.Originally posted by Zapater View PostI definitely could. But the over zealous celebrating is totally ok. In terms of credibility and sportsmanship every country has had its crosses to bare, you guys had Hansie Cronje. Nobody is whiter than white.
I will say that in my experiences in sport the Aussie can be that rare breed of both bad winner and loser
Michael Cheika does my head in. Eddie Jones is an inconsistent moaner.Modifying post.

Jesus mate. Let it all out, you've been bottling that up for a while.Originally posted by Zapater View PostI definitely could. South Africans having the gall to call others racist. Now theres something you don't see every day."When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah

Now let the Irishman chime in on this
I spent a year in Australia in 2000/2001 (Sydney for the Olympics
) and as a sporting nation you are up there with the best of them. I've never seen a country with such a will to win regardless of the sport - from tiddlywinks up to cricket, rugby union etc. That inbred will to win has produced some great teams across all sports making them very successful with multiple world cups in Union, League and Cricket.
In this case what they did is blatant cheating and as the lads said above they need to punished accordingly to deter others from doing it. The claims are that sugar was used during the ashes to tamper with the ball so who knows how long this is going on. Cricket is normally so "honourable" that I'm surprised that they had the audacity to do it and actually thought the cameras wouldn't see it.
There will be a lot of fall out from this now - pity that Smith is embroiled in it as he is such a superb cricketer.

I'm not saying that anyone else is innocent. Obviously we all have our bad eggs, and everyone plays the game hard at that level. I just think that Australian teams are generally prepared to go that extra bit further (the underarm ball for example).Originally posted by Buzzo View PostWell, yeah, the racism is clearly totally unacceptable.

I also don't mind a bit of niggle with the celebration - look at Dale Steyn for example, the guy goes mental, Kohli in the field too. I know that it's not 100% fair to compare because the disciplinary system was completely different but it disappoints me that Rabada gets in huge trouble for telling Stokes to **** off in retaliation to something said in a previous series (like at 20% of the intensity that Brett Lee used to) where no one ever complained about Lee doing it.
It's slipping away a bit in the rugby since you guys have been less competitive. Still great backline players but you can't make it work. Jeez, some of the players in 90s and early 2000s were some of the hardest/most competitive men alive. Stirling Mortlock, Owen Finegan and George Gregan spring to mind. Wish Harry Kewell had some of that in him, too bad he was the opposite.
A test series against Australia gets my blood boiling a bit, I think we in South Africa see it as our biggest rivalry, not just cricket but overall. We are a bit bitter and twisted too because we don't have an 'Ashes' despite feeling that we've generally had a better team than England since readmission yet our series are less publicised internationally. Must be said though, my feeling towards Australia sporting wise is very different to the place/people. I spent over 2 years living in Sydney and I really have no major complaints.Originally posted by Harv View PostJesus mate. Let it all out, you've been bottling that up for a while.

That racism comment is a bit unfair, I won't go into too much detail because it's a sticky subject and I'm not the best person to speak about it. I just find it ironic that someone with Lehmann's past can get away with it and have a generally good rep. In addition touring players to SA (and most other countries) never have an issue, which has been a common problem in Australia with South African players of colour since 95.
I'm from Johannesburg, have lived here for the majority of my life and currently reside here, however I have extended experience of living in the UK and New Zealand with a briefer stay in Australia. And I can say that in terms of racism of the average person, there is not a huge difference (the kiwis are probably the worst). The main difference is that our history is more recent and there are serious social problems in society which people tend to blame other people for relating to crime, deteriorating infrastructure, politics etc. But that almost inherent belief people here are all horribly racist or have serious tension with each other is unfair and many people abroad believe it.
Although, relating it to cricket, I can't wait to get Bavuma out of the team. I think he's ****ing awful (good fielder mind) and he's purely selected based on the colour of his skin and this terrible '2 black African player per match' rule. I don't know how he must feel about it as he surely knows he's out of his depth. I don't know his stats exactly, but 1 century and an average in the low 30s after 30 matches is nowhere near good enough. Hopefully the rise of a very talented Ngidi, who is the natural successor to Morkel will end his career.
What do you guys think about it from the outside that we're forced to select certain players and have lost a ton of good players to county cricket because of it? It's a strange thing, but SA isn't a normal country and I'm not sure that normal rules can apply - but surely the coach, captain and selectors should have free reign over selection at the highest level? I wonder what Otis Gibson thinks of this, never having to worry about such things before. We have the most professional rugby players in the world because of it - players from here going overseas to play so rushing upcoming talent through which is increasing the pool but diluting the quality. It looks like cricket is going the same way and I'm not sure what to think about it.

Agree with that. This Aussie team seems to be a combination of all of the worst character traits. I think Warner (and Lehman) sum them up. Smith doesnt seem like a bad bloke, perhaps not strong enough to see of some of the stronger personalities within the team.
I'm Scottish though, our backline is working just great
Modifying post.
