I find the whole situation laughable. What the **** were they thinking, especially this day and age with HD cameras all over the place. Warner's a dickhead, always has been, but i don't think this is going to really hurt his status. He'll still be a dickhead.

Bancroft is clearly the bunny here. He's probably been given an ultimatum to do it or lose your opening spot to Renshaw (who i think is miles better anyway), so the guy has just done it. Clearly has no spine to stand up for himself. So no great loss and i doubt we'll ever see him in the test side again.

But Smith though (as much as i don't like him because he seems incredibly dim and just looks weird) has tarnished his whole rep with this. One of the best batsmen going around, could go down in record books and getting compared to The Don - and he orchestrates one of the stupidest acts on a field I've ever seen.

Can you imagine Warner telling Bancroft, listen we have never done this before but we want you to tamper with the ball, it will be easy, just put some sandpaper down your pants and give the ball a bit of a rub mate, no one will ever know.

I think there is more to it and I don't believe this is the only time it's been done.

There's 2 scenario's.

1. Warner tried it on before and because of the scrutiny he got had someone else give it a go.
2. Warner didn't try it on before but the scrutiny gave him an idea.

Both are just as likely. In fact the latter shows a lack of insight and originality so is probably more likely.

You only have to look at the reaction to this in Australia. Say anything you like about 'em being poor sports and I'll agree, but cheating is not in the nations mentality. The majority of the country is pro banning their best 2 players to make an example ffs, without these 2 it's a team of bunnies, they've ****ed themselves, intentionally. You don't get much purer than that.

If it had happened before someone would have given 'em a good kick up the arse and it wouldn't have happened this time.
