I would definitely have picked Carey; different skill sets to some extent but I thought he looked very solid in both the Big Bash and the World Cup.

How did he get on in the Sheffield Shield?

Agreed, but there was some radio chat yesterday that he might not be included. Guess we'll know in about 45 minutes.

Well he made it, but picking a squad of 14 is a bit unusual so presumably there are strong doubts about the overall composition of the team.

He didn't play much, missed early games then was on international duty. His overall average is under 30 in shield cricket. Still, he looks a real gun.

Apparently he's signed with Sussex to play T20 after not making the squad.

Rory Burns has the worst technique of any opening batsman I think I've ever seen. I know they say the selectors have invested in him for the full summer but I reckon he'll get dropped after 2 Tests.

Who knows? None of the batsmen exactly covered themselves in glory in the trial match. Bancroft got an unbeaten 90 odd & Warner a 50 odd, otherwise not much to crow about.
The squad was announced last night. Bowling stocks look good & the "Unholy trinity" are back in. Personally, I thing Joe Burns & Alex Carey might feel a little hard done by.

Full squad: Tim Paine (c), Cameron Bancroft, Patrick Cummins, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon,
Mitchell Marsh, Michael Neser, James Pattinson, Peter Siddle, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, David Warner
Wow.....that’s below the belt - I remember Morgan playing 4 day cricket for Ireland when he was 16. A prodigious talent way back then and he scored big runs before being ‘poached’ by you lot

Life's a whole lot easier when you play half your games on England's flattest pitch.

Wouldn't surprise me if he gets a call up at some point during the series given he's "in the area".

seen his average scores in each position and basically got worse the higher up the order he went. Is halving his scores really going to be helpful?

Poached he certainly was but not by my lot.

I watched a bit of the recent series against the Windies, can't recall Burns or Denly pulling up too many trees & I guess it remains to be seen whether Roy can translate his WC form to tests.
