That's good news then as the met office app says 90% all day at Old Trafford and I'd consigned myself to no play. Let's get out there!Originally posted by Norbs View PostWeather map looks promising with most of the rain being further to the NorthAlways borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. This having to start at 11 when it's been dry for a few hours and then taking early lunch when they've just had breakfast. It's all a bit rigid. About time some common sense was taken going forward and a bit more flexibility. People want to see a result and have paid for tickets.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. why is this just becoming an issue now?

It's been an issue for a while big obviously effects us more as we get rain frequently. Obviously it's coming across us desperation to beat you lot, but going forwards, I think there needs to be a conversation. Even Wimbledon and The Lawn Tennis Association had to a accept some change. Play on sundays if matches lost to rain, later play if necessary. In instances where 2 whole days look likely to be lost, agreement from teams to start a bit earlier, forgo lunch etc should at least be discussed. No rules are going to changed today, so your safe!Originally posted by Harv View Postwhy is this just becoming an issue now?

A) The games been played like this for over a century. Its a 5 day test match, weather forecasts are pretty good these days, you know pretty much exactly whats coming, maybe teams should plan accordingly? Maybe you lot shouldn't have batted so long?
B) This need for a result has all come about since the advent of social media. People have developed this insatiable thirst/need for immediate gratification. Rain is part of the game. People need to stop ****ing with things. If you add an extra day, why not add two? three? What if its raining for 4 days during a test? Do you cancel it and then make it a week later?
C) The whinging from England this series has reached uncharted territory. Its incredible the amount of excuses being made. Aussies have won the series because of rain...err no. We won, because we won the first 2 tests

I don't think anyone is denying the fact you won the first 2 tests and therefore retain the ashes.Originally posted by Harv View PostHere's the thing though.

But whilst retaining some of the traditions of test cricket it would be foolish to not consider embracing some change. The younger generation are the future of cricket, if you can't keep them interested then there will be no game. Look at some of the shots the players play these days, it's not in the true spirit of the game but it makes it more interesting. Why not consider in exceptional circumstances, breaking from the tradition of having lunch and tea? Especially now they get drinks breaks ffs.
Oh it's not rained for an hour, we'll inspect the pitch in 45 minutes and then allow lunch so we'll look to start in 2 hours. Oh bugger its now raining.
Anyway, your women lost 2 series and we made you look amateurs when we were batting. I'll take some satisfaction from that.

It was fine for us growing up though wasn't it??
What has changed that would make kids not like cricket? Once again i think its a societal issue where people need instant gratification which all seems to have come about since social media/smartphones and a constant never-ending bombardment with information and news.
You can have every single victory in women's cricket, football and every other sport for all i care. Take them all

Been a good game so far at The Oval. Plenty of wickets which wasn't the case on my only two visits. I think I saw 3 wickets in 2 whole days against South Africa.
We've started our 2nd innings well, 77 for zip. All to play for.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

Yeah but we could of helped ourselves if we had got more overs in. Both teams have been poor in that respect.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostOne day of rain could potentially have cost England an outright Ashes win.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde
