Not to mention that you get to see some seriously beautiful routes. Whether Fell through the lakes, cross country in national heritage sites or coastal runs. All class. There is definitely a huge kick in competition. Racing is brill.

So it's as challenging as you want to make it. Picking a route and running it endlessly is, no doubt, a bit **** but to lump all of running with a lack of originality is a nonsense. Also found running to be far more social than any other sport I've done. It's great crack
    Cracking bite this one

I did enjoy running for a few years, done about 20/30 miles a week but it was more to supplement my football with a focused goal than just running for runnings sake.

I know you can set goals and targets in running. But I prefer the competing of football, and I didn't find improvement in running exciting or anything. Where as when I was improving at golf, it was great.

    Sorry.

Has your running made a difference? Like I said I don't want a six pack or monster biceps ......just a flat stomach and a flat chest.
Definitely made a difference. My proto moobs have almost disappeared and my face is less multi - chinned but my paunch is proving harder to shift. Although that's probably because I haven't adopted a runner's diet. I did my longest run yet just before the England game. 12.3km, finished it full of righteous self-satisfaction and then made the mistake of comparing the calories burned on my app against the etruscan salami pizza I was about to scoff.

      Bloody Etruscans.

I'll give you a tip mate.

Just do 2-3 runs a week not 5, you'll be overdoing it otherwise and you will feel better for it with better energy levels too.

I love playing and rarely get injured doing it. Get yourself some decent court shoes, I like Yonex as they last for ever.
            Cheers mate

Okay cheers mate. Most people seem to be saying 5 is too many.

Injuries and and warming up/down are just as much a part of running.

                    re 5 a side

it's really catching up with me - i need to sort my diet out and get fitter doing something else right away otherwise i won't be able to keep playing footy

played monday night - and my legs are still in bits - knees/ankles just feel so tight. Amazing - i miss one week of footy/exercise as i am away working - and add to that, whilst away working i eat/drink way more than normal

first game back and it kills me

                    Playing again tonight

Have you tried mobility exercises for your knees/ankles PTP?

They can be a big help in preventing pain and getting your joints moving freely.

                        tell me more?

it's mad - i'm sitting at my desk at moment - say i'll be sat for 20 mins or so.

When i go to stand my knees/ankles are stiff as ****, really tight, i can feel the muscle tension in my ankle/achille if that makes sense.

but if a walk around for 10 mins or so, it goes as i've loosened up

As daft as it sounds mate but do you actually do any post football stretches, that includes your feet and ankles?

I don't stretch as soon as I get in from football or a run. I have a shower and then do a 10 minute stretch afterwards concentrating on my hamstrings, groins and calfs but I do my ankles as well.

Maybe it may help get rid of some of the pain.

I agree but I'm lazy. I think you need to give your muscles time to recover. Any bit of intervals that you can do benefits exponentially. I know Rowan said to walk and run and maybe that's because of the lengths and intensity of his runs but any advice I got from fit friends/colleagues was to get your breath back with a slow jog.

Badminton gets my vote as well. Gets a great sweat going. Not that it sounds like that's a problem for you.
