Not sure I'd be interested in going offroad to be honest mate. I don't know too many places here where I can do that and it doesn't really do much for me.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostWhy don't you go offroad then? Get a Moutain Bike and ride down the river wey or round a park ?
But it's an option I suppose.

I want a bicycle but I'm too scared to go on the roads.

You get used to it. Although the roads are a bit busier where you are than here. Casemore's idea might be worth a try.
It's about perception really. Earlier in the week I was walking on a pavement alongside a main road that I usually cycle on and I felt uncomfortable every time a car passed me.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

I'll be lycra-ed up though so that will make you feel embarrassed.

There are some nice roads to ride south of the Hog's Back. Or is it Hogs Back? I dunno.Originally posted by rcasemore View Postthat or shoot down the A31, can't see that ending in tears

That's exactly it. If I was to cycle into town (rather than walk, which I do sometimes), then it'd mean cycling along a two mile stretch which is pretty dangerous tbh. The walk is dangerous in itself so I wouldn't stand a chance cycling.
I'd get squashed.

Walked down it once at 4am in the morning and got picked up by the fuzz. Never again.

I do have access to a bike so I may well take you up on that offer actually.

Probably not. Most road users do avoid you. And there is definitely more room given in recent months.Originally posted by Lee View Post

Of course it only takes one.

Wiki has Hog's Back. But it's Hogs Back brewery. Somehow Hog's Back looks wrong, even though it's 'normally' right.

Only a nutcase would ride a bike on the Hogs Back. Or the hog's back.
Both are far too dangerous although the latter might be amusing to watch..

Did any of you lot join 'The Gym' ? The low cost ones that are popping up now? £15 a month or something? Are they any good? I want to use them to build up some cycling fitness. I know it's no the same as actually cycling, but it's so darn hard to do it while its dark and clod during the week.*Except Michael, who died.
