Wasnt one of the vice captains 72? The Europeans had all their mates as vice captains, people who they knew well and they had some old dude.
There is a huge wealth of experience in terms in Europes captains and vice-captains. Not only in terms of playing but actually being vice captains or previous captains
Torrance has been a vice captain in 2010, 2012 & 2014
Olazabal captain in 2012, vice captain 2014
McGinley vice captain 2010 & 2012, captain 2014
Jimenez has been vice captain in 2012 & 2014
You also have Clarke, Bjorn & now Harrington who have been vice captains
There also seems to be no egos, a captain will happily be a vice captain next time around for the benefit of the team
The Europeans also are more of a team, there seems to be no egos getting in the way. Yeah there are some brilliant players on the European team but they are immersed in the team ethos. The USA just like finger pointing, you had Mickelson leaking stuff to the press about not playing Saturday then his press conference afterwards. The European team can leave people out and yet still maintain their togetherness. I heard something yesterday that McGinlay brought in additional vice captains this time round because he didnt want players not playing on Friday or Saturday to be left out on their own. So the vice captains spent time with them and made them feel part of the experience / day eventhough they werent playing
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."
