A lot of people don't like him but I think he's great - a good loser and a nice guy. Good to see this, I don't think he gets the credit he deserves. For me him, Nadal and Federer will finish their careers as the best three ever.

Even if djoker wins less slams I still thinks he's the best of that 3.

He's raised the bar beyond their level which says it all.

Stan, as a one off, cup tie specialist is just unplayable though.

      His drives sound like gunshots.

You wouldn't have Sampras in that contention?

Got free tickets for the Aegon Tennis semi finals in Eastbourne, hoping Wozniacki makes it that far!

No. Too one dimensional for me. Those three would all hammer him IMO.

I think Murray would too tbh.

I dunno Sampras was genuinely special

He was - as was Agassi (who I preferred) - but I think these three have taken it a good bit beyond Sampras and Agassi.

Sampras is badly undermined by being totally **** on clay / at the French. The others have all been able to perform there (Novak yet to win one but he performs to his level - Sampras used to routinely go out early. Just one semi-final).

Sampras was good, but tennis has changed for the better since he was dominating. I read a stat that when he beat Ivanisavic in the Final the longest rally was 6 shots in the entire match!!! Serve, Volley 15-Love .... Serve Ace....30-love etc...

I think Tennis has more power endurance and skill now and therefor we are currently seeing the best Tennis and Tennis players in history. Agassi had a more all round game than Sampras (Golden Slam), and was one player who perhaps had the game to compete with the Tennis we see today. Some of the angles found, power and endurance witnessed in the French Open last week was stunning.

I agree that Roger, Rafa and Novak are the three best players in history, and Novak could become the best of them all.

Murray, *cursed* as he is to be so good, will have to be happy with being the forth best player in the Golden Age of mens tennis.

                      Completely agree.

I have it in for Sampras slightly as he was so utterly ****ing boring to watch. Men's tennis was depressing then. As you say, serve, ace, 15-0, serve, ace, serve, volley, 40-0, rinse and repeat. Yawn.

This lot'd have Sampras for breakfast.

The only exciting thing Sampras used to do was that volley where he leapt in the air and smashed it.

Other than that he was utterly boring.

I was a big Sampras fan. One for the purists, I'll admit, but he a lovely classical game.

I think Sampras would have been ok in today's game as well, he had a fantastic array of baseline strokes, was superb at the net and his running forehand passing shot was a joy to watch. As was his "slam dunk" shot that someone referred to further up the page.

And his serve....not overly powerful, but so well placed and his second serve was the best there's ever been; not much slower than his first serve and so accurate.

Andy Murray game underway at Queens.

                              Nadal out.
