It's mad - I've been thinking about the coin toss a lot lately, and how so many games of cricket essentially hinge on the toss of a coin. As said above, if we'd won the toss we in all likelihood would've made 450+ and the game is completely different.

    Just read Ricky Ponting's idea.

The familiar Australian to whom we owe the idea which would put an end to surfaces like the one we have seen across the last four days did not contribute to Saturday’s discussion. Forget the toss of a coin, Ricky Ponting said. Simply let the visiting team look at the pitch on every occasion and decide what they want to do.

It seems a staggeringly simple and obvious revolution for Test cricket; just the incentive required to ensure that every groundsman creates the equitable contest that a nation of young prospective cricketers wants to see in the weeks ahead, when they tune in to the Ashes.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

James Taylor gave the selectors a timely nudge today scoring 291 for Notts against Sussex.

            4/6

The two I got wrong are the ones I guess everyone will get wrong.

                Ballance dropped for Bairstow.

Adam Lyth is a very lucky man.

Bell moving up to 3 which is really what he needs being so out of form.

5/6 but it was very difficult as the video didn't seem to start till the ball had hit the pad.

                            This is ridiculous.

                            Dobell on Compton:

Having taken a blow in the 2013 Headingley Test against New Zealand, Compton was sent for a scan and, while chatting to a doctor, was informed that he probably had a cracked rib. When the scans were analysed, however, he was shown to have suffered nothing more than deep bruising and it was alleged by the team management that he had shirked his fielding duties as he did not want to put himself in the firing line. Compton was offended, words were exchanged and he has never been selected since. It is two years since the selectors even spoke to him about a possible recall.

The worst part is it's not even slightly unbelievable.

Talk of a 'bowlers paradise' tomorrow, win the toss and bowl.

Might see Finn coming in for Wood who has got an ankle problem.
