Speaking of spinners, I've been really impressed with young Mason. Has been quite tidy, not at all overawed, with a little more luck might have had a wicket or two.
Bit of novelty an English leggy, be interested to see how he develops."If Ritchie Blackmore fell into a vat of ****, he'd turn out to be wearing a rubber suit." - Ronnie James Dio

Just reading the report and seen this on Crane.....Originally posted by Les Zeffelin View PostSpeaking of spinners, I've been really impressed with young Mason. Has been quite tidy, not at all overawed, with a little more luck might have had a wicket or two.

And Mason Crane is a 20-year-old leg-spinner in his first match, who went for the most runs of any England player making their Test debut and third most of all time.

Yeah, he did take a bit of a hammering but his figures don't reflect how well he bowled, I don't think he was helped by some of the fields Root set for him & as I said with a bit more luck he could easily had a couple more wickets. He had Mitch Marsh in absolute knots when he first arrived at the crease.Originally posted by Irishnev View PostJust reading the report and seen this on Crane.....

What I liked about him was his attitude unlike say Stuart Broad who has only been arsed for about a day & half in Melbourne.
It's also worth pointing out it takes spinners & particularly leg spinners a while to mature. For instance one Shane Warne took 1 for 150 on his debut, now I'm not saying Mason will turn out to be anywhere near as good but if managed correctly he'll be handy in years to come & going forward England will need a spinner who offers more than Ali."If Ritchie Blackmore fell into a vat of ****, he'd turn out to be wearing a rubber suit." - Ronnie James Dio

I didn't bother with any of this test so no idea how well he has played or not and looking at the score they all took a hammering!

No worries Nev, all good mate. I don't think fielding in the extreme heat of the last couple of days helped either, it's what did for Root.
Nathan's bunny hung around long enough for Joe to get back from the hospital & put his pads on he lasted 'til lunch but was too crook come back out after & the last rites were duly administered by Cummins. Next test in about 18 months at your place.
