Shambles, went out for a few drinks last night and came back to see we're in disarray. This is definitely the weakest batting side fielded by a South African team possibly ever. Amla is the best batsmen in the test, de Kock is good, Faf is capable and Philander is a strong lower order option. The rest are not up to scratch. Losing Elgar, Bavuma and Kuhn who fight hard but aren't great wouldn't be a loss. To think in the past SA have been spoilt for choice with great batsmen makes me pretty sad. The next generation needs to step up.

Amla only has a couple of years left, whilst du Plessis and Philander are also the wrong side of 30. Duminy was a class player but far too inconsistent to bring back, also getting on in years. If Bavuma and Elgar don't improve and de Bruyn/Markham struggle to make the grade, it's scary to think what SA's batting will be like in a few years. Especially as there are so many good bowlers even Morkel and Steyn's disappearance will be somewhat accounted for. Will be no point havng a strong seam attack and a good spinner in Maharaj if they're skittled for under 200 every time the going gets tough.

Hopefully Philander is fit to bat and Bavuma can propel us close to 200 and the rain comes back. Otherwise this is going to be another disaster of a test match. Both teams have shown that they can't play under pressure when things aren't going their way. England bowled well in favourable conditions and perhaps had slightly more luck (not that I believe in that) but this is never a 125/8 wicket. 240 +/- should be the minimum.

Just saw Jennings is 10 not out - did he hold his bat aloft when he reached double figures?
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

He recovered but that's not really a good thing. We need to bed in a new technically adept opener before the Ashes.

Its a big ask, if you can get to lunch without loss Id say you might have a slim chance of winning.
                              *Except Michael, who died.
