Guy starts something by trying to bottle Hales, Stokes finishes it with a right hook. Everyone should just move on. It's a bit unseemly and far from ideal, but this has all the hallmarks of an epic overreaction. I'm expecting some hypercritical moralising from the ECB.

We don't see very much about what started it all and what would be reasonable response etc. So with that caveat:

I am very sympathetic to this viewpoint. Many a jury are not.

The fact someone has stopped immediately trying to bottle you doesn't actually preclude the fact they may be back in a few minutes to finish the job.

If you are attacked with a deadly weapon, I think you are justified as an act of self defence in incapacitating the person. We cant see what was being said as he was backing away, but he wasn't making a run for it, he was just creating space. I would argue that I still had reasonable cause to feel threatened and needed to make sure he couldn't attack me again before leaving it.

Agreed. You'd be unwise to turn your back on and walk away from someone who tried to bottle you. Could easily end up in your back/neck.

Yep I can't imagine what it must be like to be drunk, then to think you are being amusing and edgy, then having very little recollection of it... then reading all about it when you are on the front page of the papers.

It must be horrendous.

There are nights out I have no memory off from when I was in my 20's. To imagine being famous and having them replayed in the media sends shivers down my spine
