    The Open

    returns to Birkdale.

Course has been very dry last few months, not much in the way of rough and is looking very forgiving off the tee, just need to avoid fairway bunkers. Unless the wind gets up, going to be some low scores.

McIlroy seems a bit off it, Johnson's lengthening odds at 15/1 look tasty after his injury and Spieth at 17/1 will find his way round as per. Local local Fleetwood at 28/1. The Open can often throw up a long odds winner, but nothing grabbing me so sticking with them 3.

    Bring on Friday

I used to always go to the Open when it was in the North West.

It gets too busy nowadays though and unless you are 8ft tall you don't get to see much.

      Shame.

                - weirdly the event has got more popular but the tented village areas worse

years ago they'd have all the different club/clothes manufacturers with stands and you could pick up all kinds of bargains - now, due to ridiculous concessions they put on, and the fact everything has to have the open logo on you just get a small selection of ridiculously overpriced ****.

anyway - I did the two at royal Liverpool which I loved because it was 500 yards from my old apartment - I've done birkdale twice before, Lytham 3 times and I did st Andrews once in 95 when Daly won

I am looking forward to tomorrow tho - I do prefer the final practice day - doesn't draw as big as a crowd but you get to watch some good golf and the pro's are relaxed but starting to get into game mode.

Fleetwood at 28/1 is outrageous I got 220/1 on him at the US

I'm going on the Saturday. Gutted i can't make any of the practice days as I bet you can see a lot/get around a lot more.

I do really fancy Fleetwood for this, obvious homer and his driving is excellent. I think anyone who drives well around Birkdale has a really good shot

I think the first few times I went in early 00's the tented village was better than the golf, could spend a day in there. With all the manufacturers having demos and games with the latest gear

Going up to St Andrews in 2015 for the delayed final round on Monday, course was nice and empty, tenner in

I dont think i'd bother going of a weekend again, practice days for great with the showboating/messing around. **** all annual leave to have gone though

Bit of rain but not significantly windy was the last forecast I saw.

Hopefully the wind will get up and make it a shade more interesting.
