Did anyone see the footage of the Nottingham ice hockey player who died on Saturday (I advise you not to seek it out) he had basically his throat slit by the blade of another skater in an unfortunate looking king fu kick fall from another player.

Absolutely grim.

I didn't comment on this at the time as I don't know **** all about ice hockey and even less about the player who has now been arrested. I can't say I'm surprised, I'll leave it at that I think.

I've not seen the video and have no desire too. From what I read it sounded like a freak accident. That could have been media outlets covering arse to avoid being sued of course but I was surprised at the arrest

It was like a kung fu kick to the neck, with the skates on. Impossible to happen in "normal" play...

You can get neck protectors specifically for this, they come reinforced with steel and kevlar fibers. No-one wears them as this never happens, though apparently they're selling well right now, and law changes are coming in to stop it happening again.

General consensus was he tripped, leg kicked up, freak accident. Support in the hockey community seems to be pretty much universal, including from the team and friends of the player who died.

I was intrigued, so did some googling. I have also not seen the incident nor do I wish to.

Yes, according to Twitter. But that Twitter was suggesting it took as long as it did to arrest him because of his race so I'd take that with a pinch of salt.

Not impossible, he was sort of falling himself.

It seemed like a freak accident to me, but I have no desire to watch it in slo mo.

Feels like the arrest is probably down to ensuring that all avenues are closed off in advance of any final judgment.

LOoked pretty clear cut to me too. The crazy thing is he gets up and skates off the ice rink.

The guy in the white top is massive but I can't stop thinking how relatively puny less than 15 and a half stone is at 6 foot 4. I mean, you wouldn't think someone a rake on ordinary life but for a player in a contact sport like American football or rugby it doesn't sound much
