The track cycling at the velodrome for me. Intense.

Think I need to add BMX freestyle to this...fantastic watching something I only ever thought I'd see at the X Games become an Olympic sport....and if they could introduce BMX Vert that would be even better. Dave Mirra would have been so proud to see a sport that he and Hoffman made mainstream finally make it to the world stage. (I know Mirra was an excellent freestyle rider, but vert was always the exciting event for me).

Surely it’s time to ditch the walking races. Absolute nonsense, just weird jogging and the one basic rule (continuous contact with the ground) isn’t enforced so nobody does it.

I learnt the other day that the rule is continuous contact with the ground as visible to the human eye. So, if it takes a slo-mo replay to see it, can't be acted upon.

But I agree, it's a daft sport and needs removing. Or just do it over shorter distances, if you really must keep it. I mean really, who sits and watches someone walk 20km??

One of the most bizarre sports ever. How do you get into it? Just run FFS.

Our Gold Coast Skateboarders have taken both the men’s & women’s gold medals in the park section. The girl Arisa is our youngest gold medal winner at 14 years of age & Keegan Palmer defended his gold medal at only 21 years old.

                      Speed Climbing

Though it's taken a little convincing that the competitors aren't being pulled up by the rope

That's just insane. I don't think 99.9% of the world's population could do it that fast even if it was horizontal

I had a quiet day yesterday and watched that live, bonkers.

The other one I enjoyed was kite surfing - looked like they were defying the laws of physics 90% of the time!
We are here for a good time not a long time....

Yeah the speed climbing is mental. It really does look like they are being propelled upwards

Although I'm in my 50s now, I was an avid sprinter in my youth. Have loved it ever since I was young, so always try to make sure I catch the 100m and 200m, also the Triple Jump as they were my events.

I know everyone watches those, but they are my key sports. I have loved watching random sports I'd never watch normally, too. The BMX racing really got me, so fast and brutal.

It's like the World Cup, where I'll watch Chile vs Azerbaijan with real interest.

The 400m was the absolute worst to run IMO. Trying to sprint for a whole lap is mental. I was an 800 & 1500m runner myself. Back in my day the question was if anyone could break the 4 minute mark now they run 3:26
