Some sensible takes but so many lost their minds with it.

There is some similarities with Liverpool, not the fans, but how the club didn’t progress with the times and got stuck doing it the broncos way which no longer worked and always wanted the old boys back. Hopefully they’re past that now and can get back to earning some more success.

It would be great to see all 4 Queensland teams do well. Imagine all four in the top 8. NSW would want to rewrite the rules to stop it happening again.

And everyone should hate the storm and the roosters.
Yeah the clubs you mentioned don’t seem to think the rules apply to them & that’s why I dislike them so much. Ezra Mam is a great example of one rule for you & another for us. The way Melbourne get away with holding players down to slow attacks boils my piss.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Radio host on MMM ( Marty Sheargold ) got sacked for unfavourable comments on women’s sport in general but most of his ire was directed at the Matildas. I’ve always found him obnoxious & dim witted & it got to a point where I’d change stations instead of listening to his winey voice. Farewell for good hopefully.

I heard that. It wasn’t even an attempt at being funny just completely dismissive and disrespectful.

Yeah I’m surprised they kept Ezra. I would have been fine with them getting rid. The other issue is he would been picked up by another club straight away like so many others and not had any real consequences for his actions.

I do prefer AFL, always have. It does have some similarities to football at times and when you watch the top teams and the ball movement at pace it shows more skill and control than rugby league. I’d also put union ahead of league.

Maybe it’s not growing up in Australia but as much as I’ve got more into league over the years the culture always puts me off. The old footy show wasn’t one of my favourites.

He said something along the lines of I’d rather bang a nail through my penis that watch women’s sport or watch the Matildas or along those lines. Not sure how he thought he’d get away with that.

Yep agree totally. I actually started off watching league but have grown into AFL more as I get older. The sports betting on the league casts a doubt over results more than any other sport over here so it’s hard for me to get invested fully.

Especially with V'landys in charge and the change to 6 again and one ref. I never know what the reason for the 6 again is. Coming from a racing background where it’s all about betting doesn’t help, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a fan say anything good about his time in charge. The betting drives me nuts, always before every game. Do you remember when they had the commentators saying the updated odds during games or am I remembering wrong.

He should prove it. The World Cup was amazing. It was great to see how big it was and how well the Matilda’s did with all that support.

Yeah the betting is a blight on the game & you’re right about the updates throughout the matches back then.

Yeah it was a real buzz seeing the women doing well. There’s problems behind the scenes now seemingly but that happens in all sports.

This is how I feel as well - I grew up watching and loving league, and as a kid of Indian immigrants it was a way to help me fit into growing up in Australia in the 90s

For me, it was the super league split in 97 that ended my real love for league. I tried to go back into it numerous times after that, but then the culture really put me off it

Now it's a way for me to stay connected to back home, but it's never been the same since super league, and I prefer union as a game now as well

I appreciate AFL as well, and agree with the skill / control part of it. If I had grown up in Melbourne instead of Sydney, I think I would have had a life long love of AFL

The one thing league does that can’t be matched is state of origin. Even when I wasn’t into league I would still watch it. And that run of 8 straight was something else.

                            Yes great point! Love origin

What part of Sydney did you live? I’ve spent a huge chunk of my life living in Sydney too.

I’m not a huge Origin fan actually ( supporting the Blues can do that to you lol ) The referees seem to throw the rule book out the window as the crowd wants to see big hits & the like & the Clubs of those players are the ones that are impacted when injuries or suspensions happen. I’d be happier if it was at the end of season

Agreed it takes huge tolls on players in the middle of a season and can derail clubs’ seasons easily

I grew up in Kensington, and as a grown up lived in Balmain. Still have a house there so will eventually move back there once my wife stops gallivanting around the world for her work.

Where in Sydney were you, SB?
