                            It became a symbol of straight edge because they'd let kids into an all ages show, but the X meant you can't buy alcohol at the bar. Plain hand stamp, and you're of age to drink. So, when straight edge became popular, they used the 'X' as a symbol for no drinking... but it doesn't necessarily mean you're straight edge, just too young to drink.
