I'd say about 70/30 on race and that the CEO could probaby afford decent lawyers.

Or possibly that one is white collar crime and the other was armed robbery where someone thought they were going to be shot/murdered and would never see their family again. It probably took them years to get over that, if at all.

Don't get me wrong, the sentence for stealing billions fraudently seems low, but the guy probably had the money for a very good defence.

You can't go around holding people at gun point (be it real/not loaded)and expect an easy ride. Thems the breaks and rightly so.
