Film icon Ian McKellen was visiting schoolchildren at Chew Valley School in England yesterday and decided to use his wizardry to spellbind young minds on the subject of education.
McKellen, who plays Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings film series, didn’t need to use a long winded speech to some up the importance of young people getting a full education.
All he needed was four simple words.

Hoverboard

It's here, it's being Kickstarted, and while it's cool in principle, most videos (including its own pitch) are hiding the fact that it sounds like the screaming death of a million pigs

Who knew the future would sound so bad? It also only works on metal sheets as the 'hover engines' are magnetic and need to push against ferrous metals. So, apart from the noise and the special surface requirements, it's almost like the film the creators of the Hendo hoverboard have been legally advised to ignore:

"Yep, there was a movie. However, our attorneys have told us not to go there. So this is as far as we’ll take it."

And, finally, if you want one you'll have to back the project to the tune of $10,000 to get an actual working board. Anything below that nets you a range of prototype engines or T-shirts. Even throwing $1000 at the creators will only get you an hour long ride on one (assuming you can get to Silicon Valley).
