I watched a bit of this and one expert pyschiatrist believed they were suffering from a rare form of mental illness which can be transmitted from one person to another. Because they were identical twins and therefore geneticaly identical this aided in helping the mental illness jump from one to the other and take hold. Totally bizarre.
