    Footballers who showed great promise...

and then disappeared into thin air.

Has to rank amongst one of the shorter success stories for the Bitters, not forgetting Rooney's long tenure.

Some legendary stories at the time regarding Billy's lifestyle from mates who are Bitters, and not too sure if it was a tragic story or not.

Luke Chadwick was thought to become a big, BIG STAR for United... But the pizzaface then misteriously disappeared to West Ham, Stoke and now plays for Norwich...

Billy Kenny, 'home grown' star for EFC, disappeared after being given the heave ho from the blue ****e. Ended up at Olham on a free. Stories abound about his love of all things chemical. Good shout on Luke Chadwick.

Heh. Šuker was brilliant for Croatia that year. If my memory is correct, he played for Sevilla and Real Madrid. And he also played for Arse and West Ham. Was a great goalscorer, probably one of the best in Croatia's history.

I think he retired from active footie in 2002.

Is a legend for what he has done for Croatia, but imho, was a chronic diver and I despise that!

I'll also add Michael Chopra to this category.

He was considered to be a star for Newcastle United, but never make it. Now he plays somewhere in Wales (think he plays for Cardiff City, but I could be wrong).

Heh... He could have had everything, but opted to do drugs and now plays for non-league sides...

I was thinking more of the one season wonder I suppose - just disappeared after making it big, Arsenal, West Ham, Bundesliga - he never reached the same heights, nor did he ever live up to his billing again.

                              True
Croatia side at WC 98 was immense, probably the best in the tournament. Maybe that's why he shone through.
