Woodgate to Spurs... no, Newcastle.... no, Spurs again for £7m

Spurs and Middlesbrough agree £7million fee for Woodgate

Tottenham have had a £7million offer for Jonathan Woodgate accepted by Middlesbrough, who have given the defender permission to talk with the London club.

Boro manager Gareth Southgate is keen for Woodgate's future to be resolved quickly after losing striker Yakubu in a £13m deal to Everton right at the end of the August transfer window, leaving him little time to find a replacement.

Having matched the fee Boro paid Real Madrid for Woodgate in the summer, Spurs have set a Sunday deadline for agreement to be reached on Tiago's £9m move from Juventus.

A fee has been agreed between the two clubs, but Tiago's inflated wage demands are proving to be a stumbling block with the former Chelsea player demanding around £50,000-a-week and Spurs reluctant to go above £40,000.

If the midfielder refuses to bend by the weekend then boss Juande Ramos will pursue other targets, with Valencia's out-of-favour Spanish midfielder David Albelda one option.

Spurs goalkeeper Radek Cerny admits he would be interested in a move to QPR — even though he has just become first-choice at White Hart Lane.

Cerny's loan deal from Slavia Prague expires in the summer and his agent Pavel Paska is believed to have held talks with QPR's co-owner Flavio Briatore.

"Considering that my contract in Tottenham expires in the summer, I must be looking for a different club," said Cerny. "If QPR were it, then I would go there."

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Didn't Boro pay £8 million for him?

Boro are a strange club. The only 2 good players they have left are Woodgate and Downing. Yet they seem intent on selling both players to Spurs

Its shameful that we drew with them. They will be fighting relegation (every year till they finally go down- soon)

spurs are so stupid with their money, 16m on two players who will struggle to break into the first team.

that is one large and expensive squad they are building, but it's spurs and they'll end up ****ing it all up somehow

Woodgate is a good player who was probably on a lot of money, I guess Boro are lining their pockets to ensure the damage done by relegation is not too bad.

Woodgate - good player, injury prone. Him and King can hold hands on the treatment table.

Woodgate's a cracking player but it looks like he'll always be injury plagued.

He'll be a good signing if he can stay fit more than he's injured.

Boro must be the only club in Premiership history who are willing themselves towards relegation by constantly looking to sell their best players.

At least they still have Lee Dong Gook.

Gook, STILL with no goals for Boro

Everything else I agree with too. Woodgate is a class act and will be a fantastic buy for Spurs if they can stay fit.

Gilberto, who they signed on a pre-contract the other day, is also an excellent player although he is 32.

Ramos is building a good side.

I think Boro are a decent side but need to get more goals into their team. I'm not sure that loosing Woodgate would be such a huge loss to them - he hasn't looked at his best this season and obviously his injury record is always a worry. I think the problem for them will be how well Southgate can spend the money - can't see many good players being over keen to go there anyway and he hasn't shown a great eye for picking goalscorers.
