They'll have to kick Darren Anderton of it first !

Strange signing when you consider his injury problems.

I assume that Spurs want to partner him with King...not a bad pairing I'm sure you'll agree but they both seem to be injured constantly.

That would be crazy though. Dawson is a far better player. I think Dawson is one of the best defenders in the country...we should've signed him. He's quick, strong, aggressive, great in the air and very good with the ball at his feet. We missed out.

Seriously? Dawson better than Woodgate? No chance IMO.

Dawson looked a good player with King alongside him but this season and last, when King's been missing for the most part, Dawson has been well and truly all at sea.

                I disagree.

I disagree - Spurs defence without King has been woeful. However it is possible that Dawson is a bit like Carvalho at Chelsea (I've not watched enough Spurs to tell) in that he wants to be playing with someone who leads the defensive line and gets exposed without the right partner but is a good foil for the right type of defender.

I reckon if you played Woodgate next to Kaboul or Gardner, Spurs defence would still be woeful. For me Dawson is a better defender than Woodgate.

Woodgate did surprisingly well with Bramble and the like at Newcastle (in the games where he was fit). I'm not sure about him either at present to be honest - looked good last year and obviously in the past he had the talent - this year he has been pretty average IMO. Could be a faded force or simply a bit of bad form in a poor team. He is however more of a leader than Dawson which whatever you feel about him as a player is one of his weaker points.

                        Woodgate set for Newcastle

Jonathan Woodgate is in talks with Newcastle after their £7m bid for the defender was accepted by Middlesbrough, reports BBC Radio Newcastle.

Woodgate, who left the Magpies to join Real Madrid in 2004, looks set for a return to the club having reportedly turned down a move to Tottenham.

Spurs had also had an offer for the England international accepted.

Woodgate, 28, was not included in Middlesbrough's squad for their FA Cup match at Mansfield on Saturday.

On Thursday, Boro manager Gareth Southgate insisted he was under no pressure to sell any of his players.

"We wouldn't let anybody go unless we thought we were suitably covered in that position or had somebody else coming in who we thought could replace the player that was going," he said.

Southgate has other options in defence, with David Wheater, Robert Huth, Emanuel Pogatetz and Matthew Bates all competing for places.

Woodgate joined hometown team Boro for £7m from Real last summer, after an impressive campaign on loan from the Spanish club last season.

If he signs for Newcastle rather than Spurs he'd need his head tested.

Newcastle is the home of non-defending defenders - hence their interest in Pascal 'Tabloid Whore Who Couldn't Stop a Newt' Chimbonda.

Woodgate's previous spell there wasn't very successful. He was so upset at their inept defending that he pretended to be injured the whole time rather than have to suffer the shame of playing alongside Titus Bramble.

Chimbonda needs to get himself a far shorter nickname than that. It just doesn't trip off the tongue at all.
                            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

He's from the north east so I'm not surprised he turned down a move to London.
