The Little Welsh boy is at it again

    Lifted from the daily mirror

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michael Owen has warned contract negotiations with Newcastle will "take time" as the club battles not to lose him on a free next summer.

With only a season left on his current contract the England striker has had two meetings to thrash out a new deal.

But Owen is currently on a £115,000-a-week mega-deal and may have to accept a pay cut as owner Mike Ashley looks to slash United's £70million yearly wage bill.

Owen admitted: "We have been opening contract negotiations, there have been a couple of meetings so far, but it will take time."

He should realise that he's average. If he leaves Newcastle, he may end up at Portsmouth, like all the other 'rejects' or players 'past their sell by dates'.

        I don't think he's average at all.

He's had a lot of bad luck with injuries, and that has stopped him from becoming the player he should have been.
        Oh I don't know.

I think jumping ship so quickly as he did had an effect on his injury, and the speed with which he ran to Madrid, also likely aggravated everything.

He was never 'that' good anyway. Great goal scorer yes but not on a par with Robbie.

He thought he was a better player than he really is. What a revelation it would have been for him when he found himself on the bench and finally ending up in Newcastle.

It's quite incredible that he never managed to score 20 in the prem, still hasn't, find that amazing to this day considering the reputation he carries. The list of players that have would be interesting, far lesser names than him i'd wager.

I just think that the press made him a hero, when he was never one in the first place.

Rafa let him go for 6m FFS.

'That' goal made him a world star overnight.

No scoring 118 goals in 216 games for us made him a hero along with snatching an FA Cup Final victory from the jaws of defeat etc. He was a top top player for us and no matter what has happened since then nothing will change that even though I wasn't his biggest fan with the way he left.

It was £8mil plus Nunez actually and Rafa really had no choice as we had zero money and the end of the window was looming.

                            Well said.

He was a great player for us for a time but he hasn't been the same since he joined Newcastle and has had so many injury problems.

He's never going to rise to the top of his profession or play for a really big team again. Newcastle are a good fit for him. He should settle down and apply himself - God knows he owes the Geordies a good season - instead of agitating for a move again.

Little tosser with an inflated opinion of himself. He must be minted by now so you'd expect him to be more interested in his football than whether he ears 100k or 115k a week. Just one of those greedy people I guess.
