He'll need to have some season to convince a team to take him on wages remotely close to his current pay. I wouldn't say he is avergage but it's impossible to know just what level he is at given his problems since he left us.

He couldn't hold the ball up properly, had space but zero kind of technical ability. His performances for England were all mediocre (most of them). Yes he scored a lot of goals, but it has mainly papered over the cracks.Originally posted by dom9 View PostApart from scoring loads of goals, which he did, what else would you have expected him to do?
Owen: great goal scorer but average footballer.

How can anyone who scores so many goals at the top level ever be an average footballer? It's one of the hardest things to do in the game.Originally posted by fredo View PostHe couldn't hold the ball up properly, had space but zero kind of technical ability. That's like saying Reina's a great keeper but he's limited so not a great footballer. Carra is a great defender but can't go on mazy 50 yard runs and belt it into the top corner so is only an average footballer. Makes no sense mate.
Every footballer has strengths and weaknesses and that's why most players can only play in one position, if you're only great when every single aspect of your game is strong then it must be a pretty small number of individuals who can truly be described as great players."My commitment to Liverpool is 100 per cent. I would die for that Liverpool shirt. I think the club loves me and I feel the same, no matter what the situation." - Pepe Reina, Nov '09.

I used to have this argument with a manc fan about Owen for England. He didn't think he should play because, and I quote, "all he can do is score goals". I just found it utterly bizarre. What more do you want from a striker? Surely their number one aim is to score goals, and Owen scored bucket loads for us and England.
So what if he wasn't great at dropping off the play and holding the ball up etc. There are 11 players in a team and they can all have different responsibilities. Owen's was to stick the ball in the back of the net and he has done it regularly for every team he has played for. At his peak there weren't many better strikers in world football.

Obviously you wouldn't want two Owens in a team because it wouldn't be a good balance but if you play him with someone who can hold the ball up and make chances for him you're in business. He wouldn't suit every team and formation (ours for a start) but he's been a GREAT player when used properly.

It is very hard for the person reading your posts yes, because you have a lot of difficulty forming a coherent sentence. But fair enough English isn't your first language so we have to cut you some slack.
[neilyoung]Plus you're an idiot[/neilyoung]

I actually think that you being in love has made your ramblings even more bizarre
