    League considers scrapping draws

Dont like the sound of this:

The Football League board is to consider a proposal to scrap draws and decide matches by penalty shoot-outs, BBC Five Live understands.

The idea will be discussed by Football League chairmen and chief executives at a board meeting on Thursday.

No timescale has been given for implementing the change if the chairmen go ahead with the proposal.

"Why can't we just have a draw?" Bournemouth boss Kevin Bond told the Daily Echo newspaper.

The idea was originally put forward in the recent Football League Fans Survey.

There are currently two proposals to be considered - a traditional penalty shoot-out or where a player would have eight seconds to try and score after receiving the ball on the half-way line.

"I don't agree with it because I think it's too much of a radical change," Bond added.

"I'm very open-minded and I think certain laws of the game need to move with the times but that would be too much of a drastic measure."

That is a diabolical idea. ****ing diabolical. What's so wrong about a drawn game??

Let's just make the goals the full width of the pitch. This sound slike an early April Fools to me.

Idiotic IMO Just imagine if there were no draws in the Premier, certain teams would never stand a chance against other teams and football would become even more predictable. Stupid stupid stupid stupid
        * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

That's what I thought when I saw it!

I just hope that the Football League chairmen and chief executives at this board meeting show some common sense and throw this idea straight in the bin (after they've stopped laughing at the thought). Farcical idea.

Brilliant idea. Theoretically then, a team could win the league without scoring a single goal in open play during the whole season

Whoever is responsible for the idea should be shot.

Utterly ludicrous - is this from the septics?

So ridiculous it's pathetic - so it's probably true...

Can't beat a well fought battling spirit 0-0 away from home can you?

It's up to the home team to score, and the away team to stop them, in league games of course.

**** me, we will have the game divided up into quarters next, with specialist penalty takes coming on to take the pens.

Not very well thought out was it?

The idea does sound very ‘Americanized’ doesn’t it? Maybe the Soccer fans in the US of A might appreciate this idea more than us!!

Try explaining a 5 day test match draw to them, they totally lose it then!

This sort of "idea out of the box ****" really gets me wound up, the offside law needs addressing more than a 0-0 draw does.

This reminds me of the way the NASL (the first soccer league we had here in the States) handled extra time. The players started with the ball about 35 yards out, and had to dribble in and beat the keeper. Agree with the concerns about teams not scoring from open play still nicking games.

Someone had mentioned the prospect of awarding nothing for a scoreless draw, with a score of at least 1 -1 required to secure any points. Seems that would ensure teams worked to get the first goal.

Um, I can't stand one inning of baseball, much less nine innings. When you start talking about a 5 day test of any sport that vaguely resembles baseball(or vice versa) , I think I would rather drag my scrotum across 5 miles of barbwire. *ducks to avoid barbed retorts from the Cricket Brigade*

They tried here in Norway when we started doing three points for a win. If it was a draw there would be penalties, with two points to the winner and one for the loser.
What happend was that teams went for the draw to get a chance for two points. This made the last 20 mins very boring in some matches as both teams defended to get a chance of two points.
If you say that the penalty winner gets three and the loser none it will be even worse. The underdogs will set out to defend to try and win it on penalties since the gain of three points will be worth the risk.
