That's because we are smaller nations and therefore do not have the expectations that say England fans might have to win every game. When we win matches we enjoy it and when we lose we can take it on the chin as well.

Try telling that to an Englishman. Being English, and watching the drivel we've served up for so long, while at the same time having to endure the bull**** hype and laughable expectations that go with the England team, is enough to put you off international football for life.

Coming from such a tiny country as Norn Iron with no professional league and small pool of players we go into pretty much every single game we ever play as underdogs (apart from Saturday) and so if we win you can expect some euphoria! At the same time the underdogs thing means if we lose it's only to be expected in many ways and so never seems as bad, thus meaning you can enjoy international football.
As you say it is the crazy hype and expectation that goes hand in hand with the England team which puts so many people off them - its almost always destined to end in disappointment unless you beat Brazil 5-0 in the World cup final!
I would agree though that international football is inferior to club football. As much as I was really really looking forward to the last World Cup it disappointed in the end and the last Euros were rubbish.Last edited by Slim; 26-03-07, 03:18 PM.Comment
