Scum v Roma - Part II. The Revenge Mission?

So according to some newspapers, all of Roma's visitors to the Theatre of Vomit tonight will be Ultras as according to reports they monopolised the whole sale of tickets and made sure none went to "ordinary" fans.

So is this scaremongering by lazy journalists or is there a real threat of violence at OT tonight?

For my part, I don't remember Italian fans travelling that well to England(apart from Italians based in this country) and certainly not exporting trouble here.

So for me this smacks of people trying to stir it up more. I never enjoy being an away fan at Old Trafford but I think I'd be given a warmer welcome there in an LFC top tonight than I would if I was a Roman - only just of course.

    Thoughts?

I think there will be a lot of Ultras fans at OT tonight, but not all of them. And I also think stewards and policemen are much, much better than the ones in the first leg at Olimpico.

I know there will be a lot of police tonight at the game and that's very important! I think Italian fans won't even move (due to a sell out). It was easy to run and make riots at Olimpico because 1/4 stadium was empty... It's different in England though (except Riverside stadium - ffs, why is M'borough always playing at a half empty stadium?).

I think the only thing Italians will be able to do is to throw out some seats and that's it. They won't (can't) run on the stands etc.

      Oh dear.

It does sound like classic tabloid scaremongering but it's certain to be a pressure-cooker atmosphere in and around the ground. I hope it passes off without incident...well, except for maybe a few Manc scallies to get a clip round the ear. That'd be nice, along with a Roma win.

Looking forward to a cracking night of football already.

good assessment of the in-stadium situation.

if the scum are eliminated, there will be revenge attacks on any small groups of italians in the city centre.

tonight is NOT a good night for a quiet drink in deansgate locks

I'm not sure of the exact relationship but I'm pretty sure that being an Ultra does not have a one to one mapping with being a hooligan. I'm willing to be corrected and to admit that they probably have a higher element of mentalists than is usual for general supporters.

I think it is blatant scaremongering. However I have to say I wouldn't want to be going to the match as a Roma fan after all the trouble out there. I get the impression that whatever happens the atmosphere will be fairly unpleasant.

Just had a word with a chap who has something to do with overseeing stadium security and he reckons 4,000 Roma fans are coming, 1000 of which are Ultras. Reckons there's 60 coaches and a load of 'em landed at Mcr Airport this morning at 8.30am

I think you should go for a nice walk this evening around the Old Trafford area shaggy. Maybe wear your Liverpool top. And take your cats with you.

I think it wont be half as eventful as the first leg. Away fans usually travel well to England - can't remember the last time there was anything like it at Anfield. The nearest we ever got to it was when Juve fans turned their backs on the "Amicaza" mosaic - which is understandable from their viewpoint.

I'm not saying there wont be any trouble outside the grounds. We know we cant trust the media to portray the Roma fans in a great light - they've spent a week defending the "poor" Scum and Spurs fans who were the "innocent victims" in last weeks disgraceful scenes.

English fans abroad + booze + something to prove = trouble

I met a celtic Ultra in a glasgow bar one night - all I'll say is for that occasion I was happy to be an Irish Catholic Donegal Supporting Celtic Fan. The kunt had a blade in his hand and about 20 questions that I needed to be answering correctly. I've not been back in Gallowgate since

That'd be fun...although I'm due to go past there at about 4.30pm anyway.

Obviously that only works if you are driving. It would just be stupid to carry a mini car kit.

                              From the Mail (sorry)

                              United failing to fight back

Sir Alex Ferguson's team face a difficult night at Old Trafford if recent history is any guide, as they have yet to win a tie after conceding a first-leg deficit in the Champions League. Of the five ties, going back to 1997, in which they have trailed after the first leg, United have only won one return game. That 4-3 victory over Real Madrid in 2003 was academic after a brilliant hat-trick from Ronaldo wrapped up the tie before a farewell double from David Beckham in his last European tie for United.

                              1997 — Semi-final:
Borussia Dortmund 1 Man Utd 0
Man Utd 0 Borussia Dortmund 1

                              2001 — Quarter-final:
Bayern Munich 1 Man Utd 0
Man Utd 1 Bayern Munich 2

                              2003 — Quarter-final:

Man Utd 4 Real Madrid 3

                              2004 — Last 16:
FC Porto 2 Man Utd 1
Man Utd 1 FC Porto 1
