United failing to fight back
Sir Alex Ferguson's team face a difficult night at Old Trafford if recent history is any guide, as they have yet to win a tie after conceding a first-leg deficit in the Champions League. Of the five ties, going back to 1997, in which they have trailed after the first leg, United have only won one return game. That 4-3 victory over Real Madrid in 2003 was academic after a brilliant hat-trick from Ronaldo wrapped up the tie before a farewell double from David Beckham in his last European tie for United.
1997 — Semi-final:
Borussia Dortmund 1 Man Utd 0
Man Utd 0 Borussia Dortmund 1
2001 — Quarter-final:
Bayern Munich 1 Man Utd 0
Man Utd 1 Bayern Munich 2
2003 — Quarter-final:
Real Madrid 3 Man Utd 1
Man Utd 4 Real Madrid 3
2004 — Last 16:
FC Porto 2 Man Utd 1
Man Utd 1 FC Porto 1
2005 — Last 16:
Man Utd 0 AC Milan 1
AC Milan 1 Man Utd 0
It just shows how great they are and how big their club is!

Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Manchester United will create chances against Roma in Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg.
United trail 2-1 from the first leg but Ferguson believes his side are in a strong position to turn that around.
"We do recover from defeats and usually we recover well. Our attacking impetus will be much stronger than it was in Rome," he told the club's website.
"We will make opportunities, and if we take them we have a great chance."
Ferguson is also confident that keeper Edwin van der Sar will perform well despite his recent errors which contributed to United's defeat in the first leg as well as Saturday's loss to Portsmouth.
"Edwin has the experience. He knows how to deal with it," said the United boss.
At the minute, Cristiano is by far the best player in the world
Man Utd striker Wayne Rooney
"You don't get 120 caps for your country without being able to handle situations like that. He'll be OK."
Van der Sar has not been helped by playing behind an unsettled back four as United struggle with injuries.
Captain Gary Neville and central defender Nemanja Vidic will once again be missing against Roma on Tuesday.
However, Ferguson remains confident that United can come through - especially with the backing of the Old Trafford crowd.
"Over the years, all the great sides have been here and the atmosphere has always been fantastic," he said. "We expect that again tomorrow.
"I loved the atmosphere in Rome. I could play those games every week.
"Hopefully our fans can repeat that kind of noise and we will be OK because the players have proved they have the character to meet this kind of challenge."

I normally don't give a pish about other teams, but the prospect of meeting these ***** in the final means i'll be praying for Roma (as much as i would for a Pool game).Originally posted by PTP View PostI'd love it, love it, if roma go there and beat them

It was a shock for me when I first went to Glasgow, I walked into this bar and they have a big "NO COLOURS" poster on the door.Originally posted by Eth View PostI met a celtic Ultra in a glasgow bar one night - all I'll say is for that occasion I was happy to be an Irish Catholic Donegal Supporting Celtic Fan. The kunt had a blade in his hand and about 20 questions that I needed to be answering correctly. I've not been back in Gallowgate since
Same sort of thing happened to me as well, pissed guy comes up asking questions, my answer was "dads side of the family is Proddy Scottish, mums is Catholic Irish. One grandad was a Rangers fan, the other a Celtic fan, but as for me, its EASY - 100% LFC"I'm the best there is at what I do, but what I do best, isn't very nice

So is this scaremongering by lazy journalists or is there a real threat of violence at OT tonight?
For my part, I don't remember Italian fans travelling that well to England(apart from Italians based in this country) and certainly not exporting trouble here.
So for me this smacks of people trying to stir it up more. I never enjoy being an away fan at Old Trafford but I think I'd be given a warmer welcome there in an LFC top tonight than I would if I was a Roman - only just of course.
Thoughts?

I was in a repulican area on a alldayer in Scotland where every bar is 100% Celtic.Originally posted by Drake View PostIt was a shock for me when I first went to Glasgow, I walked into this bar and they have a big "NO COLOURS" poster on the door.

Cut a long story short i was with about six buddies drinking and a couple come up and start the fifty questions. Neanderthals. "We couldn't help notice your accent... what team so you support etc." After not giving much away and having a lttle play with them they started getting on my tits. So i stopped, and said look guys if your basically asking me what religion i am, there are easier ways
After a few glaket looks later i said look i'm protestant, does that bother you? These dumb ****ers i could handle, but i did notice i was getting the evils from half the bar who had set their pints down... oppps. Thankfully a much bigger mate came from behind who was a local in the area and said, "look fellas he's with us" situation nullified.
There are real problem areas in Glasgow and Belfast where i'd be much less confident....

Cause of the sheer level of arguments and fighting that religlion has caused within my family, I decided that my church is Anfield - end of story.

I used to go out with a girl Claudy (co. Derry) and I made the almost fatal mistake of going out with her in Limavady - I was obviously the only Fenian in the place and I think the smell of my fear was attracting trouble - I was getting the dirty looks and in the end you the girl I was with decided it was time to leave. She was a fine young prod and she fooking loved the meat on a friday - but I had to call it a day cos she was getting too much hassle from her family about me being a filthy teg.

I know what you mean. The hostility multiples when you factor in a girl... seen quite a few examples of that. A whole different ball game entirely.Originally posted by Eth View PostI used to go out with a girl Claudy (co. So glad i left all that bollocks behind.
My family can whistle dixie, i see who i like. Even dating a mixed quine from Scotland raised a few eyebrows back home. I couldn't have made it any clearer when asked at a family get together, "You can either like it or **** off!" I don't suffer intolerance lightly
