Did anyone catch this on BBC One last night?
Really good insight into the thoughts and viewpoint of Poll and referees in general, i thought.
He came across well IMO, genuine and seemed like a nice enough bloke.
Yes, he has tendencies to seem arrogant at times, but as he himself explained, that can sometimes be the by product of being insecure - the 'arrogance' acts as a shield.
I personally felt sorry for him and he made an excellent point about the footballing authorities needing to support and protect refs far more than they do. As Poll mentioned, he always had proper security and police escorts, but this doesnt happen at lower levels and on the parks every sunday morning.
If others start feeling like Poll and jacking it in, there'll be no more refs coming through and without them, the game will die.

. Although I've often criticised some of his decisions, and I've howled my derision at him from the stands, I've always known he was making honest mistakes. I've never believed he has/had an agenda and I never believed he was an attention-seeker. He just got some decisions wrong, as all refs do.
which would mean that yesterdays show would have been the last
Hopefully they will add a few more in as its been quality.
