With West Ham shelling out such ridiculous wages i can see them eventually going down the same road as Leeds.

might not be the right signing atm, but a 'bag o' ****e' ?

      15 goals in 34 games
31 goals in 68 league games for Charlton
are you a charlton fan trying to keep him or just shooting off for the sake of it?

bent is a good player he is not ****e like some people on here suggest, the reason why i don't want him is because i think we can do better, and i dont think he is a player that has the ability to win big matches for us. his scoring record against the top 4 is poor.

So are the players that he plays with.... with better service, he could be lethal. Not at that price though...

18m for Bent is maniac. Scored goals in the premiership with an average to bad team and may possibly score more with better supply and quality around him, but doesn't offer value compared to Owen for 9m. Is Bent worth 2 Michael Owens? I echo all the sentiments about buying Bellamy.... stilll AV and Blackburn are still about, but there is hardly a bidding war going on. There obviously is loads of money in selling biscuits.

I´ve been saying for a while that I don´t think that will be the case. The guy who owns them, Björgólfur Guðmundsson, is a serious businessman with a lot of interest in football. He is one of the main owners of Icelands National Bank (time to change the name there I think though) which is turning in insane profits that are rising and will keep on rising in the future due the indexation I think.

He is involved in some other businesses I think and his son is even richer, he´ll be able to keep West Ham floating but I can´t see them being more than a top 8 side at most with Newcastle, Tottenham, Villa and Everton in fine form.

You are right but a/ no one knows how much the deal is or b/ how it is structured. If a large chunk of it is performance related then I think it could be a decent deal as adding a player like Bent who scores goals consistantly to a squad could concievably make them UEFA challengers and there is a good deal of money for a good European run + prize money for finishing higher up the division.

Has this actually been confirmed anywhere credable - wasn't on the BBC when I checked.

he's another marcus stewart. He had a decent season in a team that plays ourely to supply him. that figure is ridiculous. double the price of m. owen or kuyt?!? its akin to leeds buying seth johnson on 40k a week.

But he has had two good seasons for Charlton now, although I don´t want him, and the price is OBSCENE, I think he´s better than average.

                        I rate Bent.

He knows where the back of the net is and can do it in the PL. His price is a bit steep but I wouldn't be upset if we signed him.
**** OFF HICKS AND GILLETT WE DON'T WANT YOU.

At some point down the road he will want the club to be self-sufficient, which will not be possible with the high wage structure.

Maybe, and he will probably want it to, but the club wont go under with him on board IMO. Just noting that, Eggert Magnusson (Egghead) is only the chairman, and he owns like 5% in the club, the rest is owned by Björgólfur.

what and another ambrosea cream eater and cider drinking? i see nothing wrong with your decription of a marcus stewart striker, that's what we need is goals. the issue for me as you say is the price.

i think rafa likes the idea of bent. he's played pretty much upfront on his own for his career, even at ipswich and scored goals consistantly. 1 in 2 games'ish. so would fit into his system of 1 up and 4+1 in midfield. which i would be against. 4-4-2 for me.

it stings a bit to be losing out on players to west ham just because of money.
