The myth that Carrick transformed the Mancs is crap as well, yeah he had a decent season for them but it was more down to Giggs/Scholes getting back to form of yesteryear and Ronaldo being head and shoulders better than any other attacking player in the prem, also Rooney played well.
The thing is that Carrick balanced their central midfield and allowed a much better link between the defence and the attacking players. Their attacking quartet benefited from having a playing sitting deeper who wasn't as limited a ball player as O'Shea or frankly crap in midfield as Alan Smith.

I think that long term he is a replacement for Scholes but they paid the money because they knew he could play either the deeper or the more advanced of the two CM positions in their formation. He was an ideal buy for them. Nani I think fits a similar position in that long term he will be seen as a Giggs replacement but now he offers a handy option in the squad as Park has largely been disappointing.

I agree that from the little I have seen of Nani he is not as good as Ronaldo or Drogba but I think that part of the reason for bringing him in now is because currently they have a strong squad and can ease him in. When they lost Keane they found that it was hard to bring in a replacement after a player has gone as the expectation adds extra weight to the move to a big club and also people have expectations about the way you will play a position.

They may also feel that he needs the move now to aid his development.

Not really, The mancs need a new left winger because Giggs at 33 won't be around for much longer.

First of all I must admt I knew nothing if Nani until around May of this year. That said the kid has had to poor games and all of a sudden he's a flop as judhed by the Internet Footie top class managers?

I would assume that the Scum's scouts watched him for hours and hours and made the decision that he is a must have so they paid up. Nani may well flop but the SCUM doesn't have a history of big mney signings follping now do they?
