Well, the powers that be in US "soccer" did not feel the need to send our first team. Personally I feel that it matters naught, as our ability to finish is woeful (See CONCACAF Gold cup and DeMarcus Beasley banging a six yard sitter off the crossbar - likely our most egregious example). But I would still prefer to see our first team trotted out to take on the likes of Argentina. The experience would be tremendous.
