Breaking news on SSN re- Newcastle.

Far Sam and one of his board members are in Barcelona to sign Edmilson and Gudjohnsen.

Apparently they want Gudjohnsen because they think that Martins is definitely off to Arsenal as a replacement for Henry.

Edmilson is the languid Brazilian holding midfielder-cum-centre back who they bought from Lyon. I'd be amazed if he wanted to go to Newcastle.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Holding midfielder. Decent player in La Liga where the build up is slower but could be suspect in the prem due to the speed that the game is played at over here.

He is also out injured for the next six months.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Sam's lad is probably his agent on a 25% cut of the transfer fee.

Puyol injury blow hits Barca plans

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol is set to be sidelined until late September due to a knee injury, it was confirmed on Friday.

The Spain centre-back suffered ligament damage in his left knee during a friendly match on Barcelona's current trip to South Africa and underwent surgery on Thursday.

Puyol, 29, played in 35 of Barca's 38 league games last season, with only goalkeeper Victor Valdes and midfielder Andres Iniesta making more appearances.

Doctor Ramon Cugat, who performed the surgery, said on Friday: "He (Puyol) will be unable to play for around three months, although he has already said that the recovery time must be shorter, because he does not want to spend as much time without playing."

The injury means Puyol is set to miss the start of the next Primera Liga season, the beginning of the Champions League and probably Spain's Euro 2008 qualifying double-header against Iceland and Latvia.

Meanwhile, Puyol's Barca team-mate Jose Edmilson is set for an even longer spell out after undergoing surgery on his right knee on Thursday.

Cugat said of the Brazilian midfielder: "I don't know if it will be four, five or six months. How the knee recovers will decide that, but without doubt it will be a long recovery."

I doubt that Gudjohnsen want to join a club like Newcastle. It will be interesting to see if Man U now will follow up their interest in him.
