The truth is no one* in America really gives a flying **** about 'soccer'

All this pretence about 'soccer' clubs 'cracking' America is pure bollocks. 'Soccer' is never going to replace the likes of NBA, MLB or the NFL in the hearts of American sports fans.

The truth is that the picture is much more complicated than that. Soccer is the biggest played sport already at grass roots level. Therefore there is clearly a market to sell football to. In an enormous country like America even a cult but popular sport can make very large sums of money.

Just because it may always be the countries 4th choice sport doesn't mean it won't be popular or a success. The problem is that people seem to think that the only measure of success would be to over take other sports which is patently a foolish way to view things.

More people in the UK go fishing of a weekend than play football.

4th choice? I think you'll find that MLS is some way behind NFL, MLB, NBA NASCAR, college football and college basketball, NHL and quite possibly Tractor racing in terms of populatiry in America.

Have a quick look at ESPN or FOXSports websites to see exactly how much coverage 'soccer' gets in the US. Or indeed you could watch ESPN or ESPN2.

anyone watch the film/docu the other night about soccer in the states in the 70s early 80s.

it really exploded in a big way when pele and best and all the other big names were playing there.

filling out 70/80 thousand stadiums,if it didnt push on from there i dont think it will ever push on,whether its the most played game amongst kids or not.
