Craig Gordon has been linked with a move to the Premiership
Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon has been given permission to hold transfer talks with Sunderland and Aston Villa, BBC Sport understands.

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has rekindled his interest in the Scotland goalkeeper after having a £5m bid rejected by the Edinburgh club last month.

Aston Villa also want to take the 24-year-old to the Premier League.

A £9m transfer to either of the English clubs may be concluded before Monday's Edinburgh derby at Tynecastle.

The Edinburgh club's majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov has indicated he would be willing to sell Gordon if the player said he wanted to leave.

BBC Sport understands Gordon is holding talks with Keane, and Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill.

Speaking last week, Gordon was reluctant to comment on the transfer speculation.

"The club hasn't told me what kind of figure they want for me, but that's up to them," said Gordon.

"I'm the captain of this club and with that comes responsibilities. I can't take my eye off the ball. I need to concentrate fully on the job."

Stevie Banks, who has been Gordon's understudy for the past two seasons, is expected to play against Hibs.
    We come not to play.

I'd actually say he's worth that, just about.

Top class keepers are hard to find. Excellent temperment on him as well and young.

He'll do well at any club he goes to, he'd be better off at Arsenal than the like of S'land and Villa though.

      Is he really that good?

The last keeper which went for a similar amount was Cech!

Never seen him play but that seems crazy money, considering we got Reina for around £6m not so long ago.

I'd be worried about anyone on here, Scots apart, who claims to have seen this lad play.

Well he's a nailed-on Scotland starter, so it wouldn't be that hard to see him play. He's done well for Scotland, but excels at Hearts.

Not many could make the transition from the SPL to the [chris]EPL[/chris], but this lad will breeze it.

He's not as good as Cech, but if he did come to the Premiership i'd put him up there with Reina, not better, but in the same bracket.

No comparison from the Penalty spot though.

Well that's what I meant - Scots I expect to have seen him play, but not non-Scots.....what non-Scot in their right mind would ever sit down to watch Scotland play football?

Same bracket as Reina?!?!?!??! He's got it all to prove.

If he's as good as that I'd expect a better standard of football club than Villa and Sunderland to be after him. Never seen him play though so I might be doing him a disservice

He is a good player (the few Scottish matches i've seen), maybe the price tag is the main factor putting teams off?
                We come not to play.

top class keeper. Deserves better than to work for ONeill or Keane

He's the best British born keeper there is at the moment. He'd walk into the Engerland team without a doubt.

His goalkeeping style is similar to Van Der Sar is that fair to say?
