Regardless of the quotes attributed to Jol I still think spurs would be making a mockery out of themselves should they decide to sack him this season.

For me its relatively simple - before Jol they were at best midtable, now with Jol they are pretty much nailed on 5th and should push for 4th. (mind you City may continue to surprise me). Therefore, in Darth world, he has improved them substantially and should at least be given the chance to continue that improvement.

      This was inevitable.

3-0 after 15 minutes and Jenas scores.

                What a clueless ****.

Tottenham visit Anfield for a Premiership fixture given added spice by the comments of Spurs manager Martin Jol yesterday. Jol was dismissive of the rebuilding job carried out by Benitez on Merseyside and also questioned the worthiness of this week's big signing Daniel Agger.

Jol said: "People say Liverpool had slipped in the past few years, but they were always in the top four or five. Tottenham were not, and yet now we are fourth in the table, so maybe we have done a better job than Liverpool."

Regarding Agger, whom Liverpool have bought from Brondby to supplement the central defensive talents of Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia, Jol was also critical. "You can see they are in another bracket when they can pay six or seven million for a full-back like Daniel Agger. That is what he is, because he plays on the right side of defence. If they think he is a centre-back then I hope that's where they play him'.

Even if he wins the champions league, the fact that he insisted that Agger was a full back proves that he's a fcuking idiot and a useless ****. Hope he gets sacked.

Looks like he'll be out of a job by the weekend....!!!

Tottenham boss Martin Jol's job remains under threat because he has lost the confidence of several top officials at the club, BBC Sport understands.

Sevilla coach Juande Ramos is in line to replace Jol, although the Spaniard's agent has denied links with Spurs.

BBC Radio 5live football correspondent Jonathan Legard says some officials are not sure Jol can deliver regular top-four Premier League finishes.

Spurs lost their first two matches this season but beat Derby 4-0 on Saturday.

On Monday, Ramos' agent Alvaro Torres denied there had been any talks with Tottenham, despite Spanish press reports claiming that the 52-year-old coach met with Spurs officials at the weekend.

Both clubs said Ramos' appearance at a Spanish hotel was a private matter and Torres said the meeting was with a friend and had "nothing to do with football".

Italy's World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi and Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp have also been linked to the post at White Hart Lane.

Jol came under pressure after the two losses - to Sunderland and Everton - in the first four days of the season following a £40m summer outlay on players.

On Friday, one bookmaker suspended betting on Jol's departure but Spurs have insisted they are not negotiating for a new manager.

Some fans also believe it is too soon to make a decision on Jol's future after only three Premier League matches.

Daniel Wynne of the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust confirmed: "It's far too early to see how the season will go.

"Jol has taken us to fifth twice, which is better than any other manager, and has been backed in the summer with his signings."

Ramos has a contract with Sevilla until 2008 and was linked with the vacant post at Manchester City before Sven-Goran Eriksson was appointed at Eastlands.

Absolutely crazy. The Spurs board have lost it. Why give the guy £40m to spend in the summer and then sack him 3 games in to replace him with somebody who might not want any of Jol's players and will need more money to buy his own??

No matter what you think of Jol as a coach, sacking him now is just plain daft. They have more points than Man Utd!

Totally agree. I think he's way, way overrated but there's no way he should be sacked. Total insanity.

Don't rate him though, he spent a lot of money during his time there.
I dont rate Jol that highly, he's certainly spent big, but surely that list tells its own story ?

He should be given this season AT LEAST to either break into the top four or win a trophy.

                        Crazy, absolutely crazy.

                        Houllier for Spurs ?

                          I don't think he should be sacked...yet.

Spurs have spent big (again) and they should be challenging the top four but never seem able to do so. However Spurs are the under achievers of the League and have done better with Jol then any other manager they have had, he needs more time.

Replacements wise I'd like to see Harry Redknapp given the chance, Lippi or Ramos would be an interesting proposition too, Arsenal beware i say.
                          We come not to play.

Ramos will be very good replacement. He has been offered a deal according to the spanish media.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Ramos is probably the best candidate for them but I'd love to see how old 'Arry would do at a bigger club.

I wouldn't be surprised if Spurs first signs up Ramos and then Alves and sell Chimbonda to Chelsea.

                                Not impossible.
