Mate, he's had a couple of decent games. Nowhere near good enough for england though.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostBut he's producing it in the league at the moment, so it's very relevant.
Christ, is chasm of quality really that big, so as to drop from Rooney down to fecking Heskey?

Seriously?Originally posted by DJS View PostFor this saturday, i'd go with Owen and Johnson up front.
Well we have different opinions on Johnson I think he's no better than Frannie Jeffers.
This isn't even a blue ****e thing I think he's one of the most over rated players in England.**** OFF HICKS AND GILLETT WE DON'T WANT YOU.

According to the Wigan fan about 10 feet from me now, he's had five absolutely outstanding games. I'll have to take his word for it as I've only seen highlights, but I know he's been highlighted already on MOTD this season by Hansen. Certainly good enough for England in the current climate and with the injuries and suspension.
England strikers pecking order:
Top group:
Owen
Rooney
Crouch
Next lot:
Defoe
Johnson

Bent
Then:
Nugent

Then?????

Johnson never has and never will be anything like international class. Heskey is experienced at that level and has done the business before - witness his trojan performance away at Italy in Rome.Originally posted by Pacman View PostSeriously?

No striker is virtually unplayable. The top defenders would not give him much at his best.He does not have the savvy or brain to outplay a top class defender.Mclaren called him up on a great performance against Sunderland where McShane or Nosworthy were on him and Newcastle where he did'nt score.Bet you he wont score against last seasons top 4 this yearOriginally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostWell England have a dearth of strikers to choose from and have had for ages, but that's not Heskey's fault either.
He's not average at his best. Over the years he's been average, or worse, many more times than he's been good, but at his best he is virtually unplayable and, given that he's in excellent form at the moment, it's obvious why he's in the squad.Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful
everyone wants to know

What a weird, confused post.
Didn't you see him against Man United at Anfield in the Houllier era? Bayern Munich in the Super Cup? Chelsea away in the 'Cheyrou' game. I could go on, but I can't be arsed.
Top, top defenders in opposition and Heskey was unplayable. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

The problem for England is that they don't have a Sheringham type of player anymore. A very clever player that will make the attack tick. Now it's more specialised type of players that is good at a few things but isn't as complete as Sheringham or Shearer for example.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostAccording to the Wigan fan about 10 feet from me now, he's had five absolutely outstanding games. According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Every player has good days.Davies from Bolton is an awkward player too and can be a handfull at times but he is average also.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View Post

Heskey is a donkey.Stan Collymore had potential but was a waster too.

He would have been in the original squad if it was obvious.Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View Postit's obvious why he's in the squad.
I'm not knocking Heskey and to be honest, we have done Heskey to death during his time with us but McClaren picking him isn't right. If we can't beat Israel without Heskey (bearing in mind that Crouch will be back for the second game) then there is something seriously wrong.Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.
Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

Rooney? Much as I despise the little tramp, he's a very good link up player.....Originally posted by AFII View PostThe problem for England is that they don't have a Sheringham type of player anymore. Er, yes he does and I gave you examples of times he has outplayed/destroyed top defenders - examples you appear to have just ignored and responded with the rather evasive "every player has good days".Originally posted by PostmanPat View PostThe top defenders would not give him much at his best.He does not have the savvy or brain to outplay a top class defender
Bizarre.
You seem to have a blind and irrational hatred of any vaguely unconventional/big/tall strikers. You seem to want every striker to be silky, Romario-esque geniuses.
To quote an irritating advert, it doesn't work like that. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
