He only brought Hunt on because O'Shea was injured. He would never have made that change so early otherwise. And Hunt should have started anyway, we should never have been in that position.

Hunt on after 37 mins in the 2nd game because of an injury to O'Shea. Hunt should have started the 1st game.Originally posted by Quinncy View PostWhy not?
He's the one who picks the wrong team, wrong tactics & has no idea how to change a game when it's going wrongHe brought on Hunt after 37 mins.. Rarely if ever is he honest when talking about our performanceWhich manager is??? and he has an "I'm right and all of you are wrong" attitudeNo he doesn`t. that has pissed off pretty much everyone at this stage
I completely agree it is Delaney's fault as it was his appointment to begin with after promising us a world renowned international manager (not someone who had never even managed a Sunday pub team in his life) but he has done himself no favours since he's been in the position.
I think when he got the job, no-one else wanted it and it didn't appear as though we had anyone really coming through. However since then the likes of Doyle, Hunt, Long, McShane etc have come through Aftre Staunton chose them and with a bit of decent coaching we could have the nucleas of a good team - Staunton IMO will never help develop them as players and by displaying some of his team selections will only discourage many of them in the long runOver reaction??????
Staunton's answer to most things is "it is what it is" or some variation. He's crap with the media, and portrays himself very poorly.Well, here we are in a room with two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.

That's the thing - he is out of his depth. I am not blaming him for everything but I have no confidence in him turning it around. I do believe a manager can win you games.Originally posted by johnp View PostHunt on after 37 mins in the 2nd game because of an injury to O'Shea. Hunt should have started the 1st game.

Dunphy made a good point about Staunton the other night.
He said that Staunton wasn't qualified to be a coach and shouldn't be in charge of an international team.
When someone else mentioned that he was an experienced international player he retorted by asking if you'd leave Staunton drive the train from Cork to Dublin as he isn't qualified to do that either.
The man has a point.
Staunton is grossly incompetent.
He should never have been appointed in the first place, which obviously isn't his fault, but he really needs to be removed as soon as possible to minimise the amount of damage he is doing.
It is scary how far backward we have gone since the end of Mick McCarthy's reign.A humble guy with healthy desire.

To answer some of Quinncy's other points ...
* Many managers will at least own up if their team has not performed or have made mistakes, Staunton remains impossibly stubborn to the point of saying other countries would find it hard coming to San Marino and securing easy wins after our fiasco - could give numerous other examples if I could be arsed
* A response of "no he doesn't" is kinda hard to have a discussion about but countless times he has been asked questions by the media about particular aspects of games and he has gotten ultra defensive and argues every point .... such as the San Marino comment above - cannot take any criticism or questions about whether he was right or wrong
* Staunton was fortunate that these players began playing for their clubs at a reasonable level (in the main) so hardly rocket science to pick players who are performing well for their clubs - surely this would be a minimum requirement for an international coach?
* Over-reaction - I genuinely don't think so. He has never managed anyone in his life and the only coaching he has ever done is a few months which he served under Paul Merson @ Walsall and he hardly looks inspirational on the line as he stands there arms folded leaning against the dugout 90% of the time so I feel justified in my concerns about his ability to bring our young talent forward
Only my opinion fella
At a football club there's a holy trinity- the players the manager and the supporters, Directors dont come into it, they are only there to sign the cheques " - Bill Shankly

I really can't see why people are defending steve staunton's management.
If anyone was watching both matches they would have quickly noticed that no player seemed to know what his job was or what type of game they were supposed to be playing. It was as if the manager said 'ah sure lads go out there and play and see what happens'. It showed a blatant shortcoming in the MANAGEMENT of the team rather than that of individual players. Furthermore the decision to leave out Reid and Hunt against slovakia and Hunt again against the Czechs beggars belief. I mean we all know that Hunt is a terrifically tenacious player and is a far superior footballer to McGeady (who looked way way out of his depth) - if we all know this how the hell does our manager not? To emphasise the point Stephen Ireland is a half decent player but partner him in the middle of the field with Carsley leaving Reid on the bench and we've got nobody on the team that can feed the strikers with accurate passing. Again, how can a manager make such a basic error?
We do have to remember that the damage to this campaign was not done this international week but long ago when we started losing matches to the likes of cyprus. Granted, we were up against it last night but our management's idiotic decision making ensured that we never really stood a decent chance of winning.
I agree that Staunton is not totally to blame, he's just a poor manager trying to do the job he was given. It was the FAI that really cocked up when they appointed him and now the house of cards is tumbling down.
I used to love international football but now i fear it. This is what the FAI has done to the average fan. F*ckers.
Hats off to Richard Dunne who was phenomenal in both games.Last edited by Jazzmaster; 13-09-07, 03:00 PM.Fernando Torres

We should either get rid of him now, or leave him go until the end of the World Cup qualifiers. Preferably let him go now, but I can't really think who we could get instead of him.

I would sack Delaney and Staunton.
Both men are not up to the job, and who voted Delaney in?
The whole FAI needs a revamp.
My personal choice would be Aldridge if he realy wanted it 100% he showed he was a good cup manager at Tranmere Rovers.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

Whos fault is it then?Originally posted by Quinncy View PostNobody better wants the job and it`s not his fault our team can`t play football.
They are all professional footballers.
I think the job came to early for him to be honest, I would have rathered someone to come in who had their own vision and direction and own football philosophy, not someone who needed to hire an advisor to do the job.
I heard on the radio today that Delaney was making comparrisons to the French side that was crap in the 90's but won the world cup in 98
Delaney :whatever:
