    Rome derby (31.10.2007)

    Hey yo!

My dads' mate (co-worker actually) is a life-long AS Roma fan and his parents hold season tickets. His mom goes to the game just because his dad is there all the time and now (unfortunately) his dad is really ill and in the hospital and most probably won't be able to go to the Rome derby. His wife doesn't want to go either so they both offered tickets for the Rome derby to their son (tickets for all the rest of the games are given to his cousins).

Since he is great friends with my dad, he offered one ticket to him, but my dad can't be arsed about it ... So he offered it to me and I accepted.

I'm flying to Rome for the Rome derby on 30/31st of October this year. We've met last week and he said that I must experience the Rome derby as there is nothing quite like it in the world. I'm actually buzzin about it, but on the other hand, I don't know if I'm going to like it with all those fire-crackers flying around my head (tickets are for the southern Roma stand).

So I'm now asking if anyone here has been at Olimpico the night Liverpool played there in 2000/01 season and how it was like? Is it safe? I mean with all this crap happening in Italy, I'm concerned about safety issues you understand.

I've watched that ****s Danny Dyer's Rome derby football factowheez, and although it seemed it was awesome, I wasn't so amused by all that smoke, rockets etc.

Anyhow, it should be a cracking trip and I hope I'll be able to get the derby experience on the camera and share it with you lot.

Here's the clip of the Rome derby @ Football Factowheez:

Well if you're sitting in Roma's end, don't wear Lazio colours.
    On the Ning Nang Nong
    Where the Cows go Bong!
And the Monkeys all say Boo!
    There's a Nong Nang Ning
    Where the trees go Ping!
And the tea pots Jibber Jabber Joo.
    On the Nong Ning Nang
    All the mice go Clang!
And you just can't catch 'em when they do!
    So it's Ning Nang Nong!
    Cows go Bong!
    Nong Nang Ning!
    Trees go Ping!
    Nong Ning Nang!
    The mice go clang!
What a noisy place to belong,
Is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!!

I went to the Rome Derby last December, the most incredible atmosphere ive ever experienced, Anfield is great but it's nothing quite like this. Got to the Olimpico 3 hours before kick off to get our barrings and the place was absolutely rocking, both curvas were nearly full, the chanting is relentless, bouncing up and down, banners, flares, it was just incredible, was in the Lazio end and they won 3-0 which made it rather good.

The views from all areas are brilliant aswell, we got tickets in row 63 and thought to ourselves "row 63 and a ****ing athletics track this'll be ****e" but the view is amazing, couldn't believe it, after the match we went down the front, right up to the back and the views were great there aswell, though at the front you need to stand a few rows back because of the glass and the amount of stuff that gets thrown at the ref/oppo players. When Totti come near the touchline he got absolutely hammered with stuff.

100s and 100s also climb the big glass things at the back to get into the curvas aswell from the other sections aswell, so when you get in the ground and see loads of people queing at the back and then climbing over the glass, dont think its something odd happening its just what they do.

Defo going back to one, got flight, great hotel for one night, ticket and a few meals and bevvies all for about £150. On the flight to Rome Ciampino we flew right near the Olimpico and had an amazing view of it from the sky, you just knew it'd be a good trip when that happened.

Oh and all of them seem to eat big boxes of Ritz.

          This sounds pretty good!

What hotel were you in? I was invited to stay at dad's mate's house, but I don't want to be in the way for his mom as she's probably worried enough with everything, so I'll probably check in a hotel/youth hostel/whatever

So there's nothing to fear with those flares etc.? That's a relief! Yeah, I'm in the Roma curve, so people will probably jump those glasses to come to us. I hope it's going to be a good game.

          Thanks for the reply mate

            No probs mate

We stayed in the river chateau hotel, it's an easy walk to the olimpico so its not central or anything but we werent arsed about seeing sites, only there to see the football so if you want to see the coliseum etc it's probably not the best. There are restaurants, shops etc near the ground aswell so its not a case of football or nothing if you do stay near there.

Flares are fine, they get em going, wave em around for a bit then just throw them at the firemen who put them out in a bucket, poor guys just spend about 5 hours having stuff thrown at them.
