Steve Staunton - A flipping ejeeet

I remember on the 'other' site I used to frequent
people defending Staunton - how we should give him time, etc.
It was then - and is more so now - clear to anyone with any footballing sense that he is not up to coaching anyone. Of course Delaney et al in Merrion Square need stringing up for appointing him but it's the coach that the players have to interact with. We had possibly the weakest group of the qualifiers and we might finish fourth....
Needs to move on. Maybe, with some youngsters coming through O'Leary might not be a bad choice for the next four years...?
Frank.Francis.

And when I say 'play Gerrard on the left', I mean on the left
A defensive mid for £18m?

When you sit there watching third rate players from a small country pass the ball around so slickly and with such confidence against so called first class players from a small country that couldn't string any passes together that you realise that the Cypriot coach pisses all over Stan. He cannot hide behind his players lack of pride. passion or confidence without taking the bullet any longer. Shame, I used to like the man!

Staunton has brought in a lot of youngsters into the team though, more than any manager I remember. Obviously he's not able to organise them very well, but at least he's generally leading us in the right direction. I thought the people booing in the first half was a disgrace, they're no fans.

Frankly I have always thought that Staunton was a Muppet. He was down my loacl pub one night with Kenny Cunningham, two of my mates were there, this was before he was IRish manager, about a year or so before say. They went over to shake his hand, and he refused to acknowledge them both. They told me Cunningham was dead sound, and they talked to him a little, but Staunton was a prick according to them.
Staunton has been thrown in at the deep end, and when we went a goal down last night, and he was shouting orders at the team to go 3 at the back, I wouldn't help thinking that they had never even tried that before under Staunton, as he had big problems communicating his message to the team, I understand it is very hard to expect him to be at Rafa's level when it comes to formations, but he atleast should have some organisation and leadership, he has neither. A manager should be someone who has an aura about them, something the players respect, Staunton is the polar opposite to that of a manager with an aura about him.
He seems to have no football philosophy or at least, it seemed like he had never really considered what it was before he became manager.
If they can sack Brian Kerr, they can sack Staunton, and while they are it at, replace that idiot who appointed him.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

They need to get a point across. They paid good money to go out there and watch that unorganised mess last night.Originally posted by Ritchi3 View PostStaunton has brought in a lot of youngsters into the team though, more than any manager I remember. I agree, we have brought in alot of unexperienced players, but unless the fans frustration is not felt, you get the feeling Delaney will not give Staunton the axe.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:

You don't do it less than half way through a qualifying game when it's 0-0 though. You do it at the end of the game. While the game is on, you support the team. End of. They were a disgrace. Oh, and I paid good money to watch it too, I'm not saying I wasn't frustrated, but I still support the team.Originally posted by bazza76 View PostThey need to get a point across. Do you think the players think it's good enough? Do they really need 60000 to let them know?Originally posted by bazza76 View PostThey need to get a point across. They paid good money to go out there and watch that unorganised mess last night.

Maybe the people who booed shouldn't have spent the money, stayed at home, bought a load of beer and booed at the TV.
Then when we come good, most likely under a new manager, they can come back and start supporting again
You don't boo your team.Well, here we are in a room with two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.

Staunton had no choice but to bring in youngsters. Who are the 'old heads' he could have chosen up front? Of course we're flush with experienced defenders of the ilk of Dunne, Finnan - yeh?Originally posted by Ritchi3 View PostStaunton has brought in a lot of youngsters into the team though, more than any manager I remember. I think this was Stauntons hand being forced rather than any philosphical move on his behalf.
The poor players last night, they go a goal down to (with all due respect, Dhavlos, and they are due a lot more respect than they get imo) Cyprus; they turn to the bench for some guidance....and there's Staunton
God help them.

Staunton obviously isn't right for the job, I haven't claimed he is. But he has done a lot more than people give him credit for. The likes of Ian Harte, Clinton Morrison and a few others could still be there, but they aren't good enough(neither are a few others that are still good enough). If he had actually had Robson at his side, which was the original deal, he may not have some of the obvious mistakes that he did. He's not a good enough manager for us, but neither does he deserve the abuse he's getting.Originally posted by Frank Leroux View PostStaunton had no choice but to bring in youngsters.
