    Steve McClown

Ok, so Peter Taylor is the latest person to come out in support of McClown, saying he should stay in the job even if England don't qualify. Add it to the supposed support he has from Barwick plus the England players like Terry, Gerrard et all who reportedly are banding together to lobby the FA to keep him on regardless of teh outcome of Euro2008 qualifying, it is clear this incompetent buffoun has a lot of support in high places.

Now I would have thought it is a no brainer that if England don't qualify he should be sacked. His principle objective when undertaking the job was to get England to the Euros. If he fails is there any justification for him to stay in the job?

Stay regardless - I like the idea of Liverpool's England players always having the summer off

There is no point IMO in sacking him if we don't have a quality replacement who can come in. While I think he is well below the desired standard there are few top managers available and he has improved on the job and has a relationship with the players already. Appointing a manager if better but not vastly superior would probably be a retrograde step IMO.

I think that ideally we want a top level manager who is getting on a bit and would be willing to stay in the post for a number of years to give us some stability. This is a limited pool and most of the best managers these days would prefer a club job.

Obviously no one wants McLaren to continue because he is an optimal solution, just as he was never anyones first choice when he got the job in the first place but I don't see that the candidates who are available has changed very much either (although we could have a cheeky bid for Mourinho I suppose).

He's ****ing rubbish. Get rid now.

By the way, I am delighted how my use of McClown has spread into every day usage. I hope that this name spreads out of Est1892 into the wider world

That's really amusing because I know for a fact that he thinks Mc Clown is a nob head and shouldn't have got the job in the first place.

i think mc claren has had more balls then Sven, by firstly copping that gerrard and lampard cant play in CM midfield together. He dropped lampard and played Barry and the team is better for it. He want to drop Robinson now as well.

Who is going to want the job, if the FA get rid. I cant see it happening.

The likes of Gerrard and Taylor are giving public support because

              1) It's the politically correct thing for the likes of them to say

              2) Just by coming out in support of McClown continues the debate and therefore hastens his inevitable sacking.

              It's a win win situation

If they don't can him now, he'll be around for another 4 years. I don't think he's done enough to deserve that.

England need to bring in a proper coach. Someone of the ilk of Capello.

No, he has less balls than Sven. McClown doesn't make these decisions because of footballing reasons, he does them at the behest of the media. He looks like a fool reacting to every media campaign of the moment. At least Sven stuck by his guns. He may have been wrong but he believed in himself and he backed himself.

And anyway, that aside his tactical ability is piss poor which is why so often we look lost and devoid of ideas. The man is ****.

I still think people would want the job. It's still regarded as one of the top jobs. Loads of cash, high profile, top footballers.....it's a headache but **** being a manager at any of the top top clubs in Europe is a headache.

The FA is run by a bunch of idiots and that is why we struggled to find a top manager last time. If they had run the recruitment process properly they would secured a top class manager and we would have already qualified from this group.

If he such a media whore, perhaps he will resign when the media start the Steve out campaign.

I am from Ireland , you dont need to tell me about the disasters that any FA make. I mean the FAI hired a defensive coach from championship side to be our manager and look at where that got us.
