Sod stability, sod the status quo. We don't need more of the same. We need a revolution. We need someone with big balls to break it apart and put it back together in away that works.

What do you mean by "works"? Is it about how the team plays or is it simply about results? If it's the latter then what do you count as success - qualifying for finals, quarter-final, semi-final, final or winning a trophy?
      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Define success whatever way you want. The thing is that by any definition Mcclaren will not get us there.

Fat Sam would be worse than McLaren, he's never won anything and has no experience at International level. That would be change for change's sake.

Redknapp is too dodgy for the FA after the investigations into transfer irregularities.

Mourinho is the only sensible appointment IMO, it has to be someone who knows what they are doing.

Well, you have to define success really. Otherwise you can say he's successful if England win a game under him.

Personally I think if England fail to qualify for a finals of a major tournament then the manager has failed and should be sacked if he (or she ) doesn't resign immediately.

After that it's gets a bit more debatable.

I agree he's crap of course but I think it helps to be clear on what criteria the manager is to be judged.

I think the mininmum that should be expected of an England manager is that we qualify for the major tournaments and then get through to the knockout stages.

After that it is very debatable, you can lose on penalties, bad refereeing decisions or it just being one of those days. But to me that is what the minimum requirement should be.

It then does come down to the talent that is available to the manager. Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales all have different ambitions because they have different qualities of players available.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

For me England should be getting into the semi's of all competitions.

I agree. It's the absolute minimum.

Maybe. Either way, McClaren hasn't a hope of achieving that.

                      He's also a clown.

So it seems a grand total of 4 out of 60, would seriously be happy for mclown to stay, with 2 of those dependant on england qualifying sounds about right

This debate will continue in about 8 months.
